The 4 telemovies were great. Let's see how this fares..
http://deadline.com/2014/11/the-stand-stephen-king-josh-boone-four-films-1201291709/
Quote: | Boone told Kevin Smith in his Babble-On podcast (I heard it on Aint It Cool News) that after he boiled down the tale to a single script for a three-hour movie, Warner Bros actually suggested to him a more ambitious plan for what he calls “The Godfather of post-apocalyptic thrillers.” Said Boone: “They asked, would you do this as multiple films. I said f*ck yes. I think we’re going to do four movies. Do The Stand at the highest level you can do it at, with a cast that’s going to blow peoples’ minds. Production in the spring.” Boone said he’s writing that first installment, based on the script he has happily scrapped. |
Edit: He is the director of the critically acclaimed "The Fault in Our Stars". (Haven't seen it.)

Yeah these are old rumors that Boone denied back in August.
https://twitter.com/JoshBooneMovies/status/503313944413761536
Quote: | I have always wanted McConaughey as Stu and Bale as Flagg. Still not sure how that story leaked - just not true. |
Considering the Guardian does not post their source or claim it's something an insider told them, I'd say they are merely reposting that old (and allegedly false) rumor. We'll see.

Ah, they screwed the URL up. Oh well.. non-issue anyhow since the director reckons it's false.

The Stand 1994 was a classic. But it was horrible if you base it soley on the source material. Then again it doesn't really matter much as long as the characters/red line remains the same.
Loved Randal Flagg 94 version, will be cool to see how this one fares. Pretty sure this time around it will be much more based on kings book which is a lot diff compared to 94 version.

Latest update from June 2015: http://www.thewrap.com/stephen-kings-the-stand-poised-to-add-tv-miniseries-at-showtime-exclusive/
Josh Boone now plans to first develop The Stand as an 8-part miniseries for Showtime before he makes any movies hence the updated thread title.
Quote: | Before it hits a movie theater near you, Stephen King‘s epic postapocalyptic novel “The Stand” will take a revolutionary detour to the small screen, as Warner Bros. and CBS Films are in talks with Showtime to mount an eight-part miniseries that will culminate in a big-budget feature film, multiple individuals familiar with the ambitious project have told TheWrap.
Josh Boone, the “Fault In Our Stars” director who boarded “The Stand” in February 2014, will write and direct the star-studded miniseries, which is expected to start shooting early next year as one cohesive production, according to insiders.
A miniseries will allow Boone to cover more of King’s epic book than one three-hour movie.
King is expected to be involved in some capacity along with producers Roy Lee and Jimmy Miller, and high-level meetings among the filmmaking team are taking place next week to finalize the ambitious multi-platform plan. Top talent agents have already been notified, as Boone is expected to set his sights on several A-listers, many of whom have become more interested in doing limited TV in the wake of HBO’s “True Detective.” |
Unfortunately since June there have been no news on whether the project has been given the green light.

You forgot to quote it's still Boone that will helm it:
Quote: | Fault in Our Stars helmer Josh Boone, who had for years been developing a feature adaptation of The Stand, will direct as well as co-write (with SEAL Team creator Ben Cavell). |

Quote: | Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg is in negotiations to play Mother Abagail, an old woman and apparent prophet who leads the ‘good’ survivors of the plague toward Boulder, Colorado. Ruby Dee played her in the miniseries.
James Marsden (“Westworld”) is in advanced negotiations to play Stu Redman, the first man discovered to be immune to the Captain Trips virus and the Free Zone community leader. Gary Sinise played him in the miniseries.
Amber Heard (“Aquaman”) is in negotiations to play private school teacher Nadine Cross who ends up becoming villain Randall Flagg’s concubine. Laura San Giacomo played her in the miniseries.
Greg Kinnear is in negotiations to play arthritis-afflicted professor Glen Bateman. Ray Walston played him in the miniseries.
Odessa Young (“Assassination Nation”) is in advanced negotiations to play the pregnant Frannie Goldsmith who ends up falling in love with Stu. Molly Ringwald played her in the miniseries.
Finally Henry Zaga (“The New Mutants”) is effectively set to play Nick Andros, a deaf-mute grifter. Rob Lowe played him in the miniseries. |

Stephen King will write the 9th and final episode.
The ending of the series will take place after the book's ending, so King will offer a continuation to it and a look at what happened to the characters beyond his book.
Quote: | The prolific horror author had lamented in interviews that he wasn’t quite happy with the ending of the book, so he likely sparked to the idea of writing a new one.
I hear the new material will pick up right after the events in the novel. The script is still being written but I hear the followup will be a substantial part of the final episode, not a brief epilogue at the end. |

You got a lot wrong.
There are 2 DVD versions, the censored is a bit trimmed as it was made for VHS, but the uncensored DVD version (with scenes never shown on TV) has been out since 1999/2000.
The bluray is going to be the original, TV, cut. The difference in content is like 1 minute or something.
