Hey,

I have bought the cheapest clip-on-your-collar sub 5€ mic I could find and now I regret it. Sad

Any advice on some half-way decent Mic that I can put on my desk when making YouTube videos with comments / voice over or for gaming communications.

I just searched for "usb mic" on amazon, found these here, so far:

A) http://www.amazon.de/Ckeyin-Kondensator-Mikrofon-Mikrofonst%C3%A4nder-Halterung/dp/B00IKCYSK8/ref=pd_sim_sbs_MI_9?ie=UTF8&refRID=094P2MKTPX9MG0WVB0R1

B) http://www.amazon.de/Auna-Kondensator-Mikrofon-Liveanwendungen-Tisch-Stativ-Tiefpassfilter/dp/B00HHE9YXQ/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1415922023&sr=8-17&keywords=usb+mic

C) http://www.amazon.de/MCU-01-Gro%C3%9Fmembran-Kondensator-Mikrofon-Recording/dp/B00ODY4OPG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_MI_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=094P2MKTPX9MG0WVB0R1

I am willing to spend up to 50€ (max-ish) for a nice Mic with a stand/tripod.

Recommendations or warnings?

The go to ones are the generally from Blue

The snowball is really popular

Or anything from Blue really, but the snowball is right in your range and it's highly recommended by many.

Only 14 reviews on the .DE domain but if you look at the .COM reviews..

I can't personally recommend the snowball ICE, maybe snowball with it gain controls, but not the ICE version (there is snowball and snowball ICE versions).

I got one for my daugher, and its recording level was WAY too low. she never used it.
So i figured id take it since I do teamspeak and voice chat a lot..I could probably tweak it in windows to be louder...

Nope, Unless your 3 inches from it speaking in a "I'm having a business meeting at a large conference table" volume to your voice, or playing instruments LOUD around it, its volume is so low that it would barely light one bar of the windows volume manager input.
I figured it might e a faulty one, so returned it. Second one was exactly the same.

So for recording live musicians playing in a room, or a loud conversation in the room between a lot of people, or vocals for a song where you are singing loudly a few inches from it it probably would be good. For talking in a normal voice a foot or so away..I was so quiet that it wouldn't even trigger voice activation in TeamSpeak.
If you look around on the web a lot of people complain about its single person chatting volume level.

It has no gain control on it, hardware or software. I hear the snowball version has one while the ICE one doesn't, but its almost 2/3s more in price.

Blue was said they were fixing that issue.

None the less, the non ice version is like ten bucks more if you're worried about the volume, contact support to see what version is being sold.

Also, you can set the gain in Windows up to 30dB, dunno why people fuss about no gain button, unless the Windows Mic manager doesn't work on it

It doesn't work on it for the gain boost Sad
it sees it as its own USB device and it controls it, all you can do is slide the windows slider under level to max, no true gain control boost or AGC options that tab is blank. can't even pick the sample rate it forces that too.

I hear the non-ICE version is a lot better for spoken normal chat since it has an actual gain switch with 3 positions on the back. If I didn't waste $65 on this one Id go get it.

I personally found omnidirectional to sound like shit on my Mic, just open up the steam Mic tab under settings and listen to yourself while playing with the options

Right click on the speaker icon on the bottom right, click recording devices, click on the mic and then the properties button.

I run

DC Offset Cancellation
Noise Supression
(skip beam forming)
Acoustic Echo Cancellation.

You know what...I'm helping someone else with a mic issue too and he's also missing the enhancements. What is your mic plugged into...

Oh...so it's a USB audio device.

Oh duh right, DXWarlock mentioned that above. Ya I don't think that's going to help anything.
