Thought this deserved it's own thread. A few months ago Sony mentioned a service called Gakai which would allow PS3 games to be streamed to the PS4; not many details were given.
We are just now getting some information about this, and it seems streaming will not only work on the PS4, but also with the ps vita, ps3, televisions and tablets as well. Starting first in the US end of January with a beta and afull rollout by summer 2014.
Quote:
It appears to be the company's public-facing brand for Gaikai, the cloud gaming technology it purchased last June, which the company previously said would bring PS3 games to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita later this year. Sony says the technology is already working here at CES, with attendees able to try critically acclaimed action title The Last of Us here in Vegas.
Although I'm sure it will require a pretty decent internet connection, and peoples experiences will certainly vary, I still think it's going to be awesome.
The netflix of gaming.

Great. Hope it works well. There are a few exclusives I missed after I sold my PS3 so it would be great to be able to play them for me. Hopefully free with ps+ but not counting on it. Then it must be really affordable.
am i totally wrong ? so i can subscribe and play playstation games even if i dont own a ps3 or ps4 ? i can connect thru an app on my TV or Ipad ? or will i require a ps3 or ps4 console ?

I know it's wishful thinking, but it would be great if somehow they could verify ps3 titles that we own and give us streaming access to them for free (ya right).
Then I could actually sell my ps3.... until then it will sit in the wall unit collecting dust with my 20+ games :/

there is really noticable input delay in that video, just look at the analog stick movement and on-screen reaction, it looks like 200-300 ms latency to me which is pretty bad, lets hope they vastly improve it in the long run.
Are you talking about when they play it on Vita? I thought it was extremely hard to see what was going on at all. Moving console, small screen etc. I am expecting some lag, and that can be tolerable depending on game. Dream scenario would be sub 100ms.
I think this video is kind of bullshit : the guy is moving the controller like hell on Beyond Two Souls and mashing buttons during a scene that is......... the ending of the game, and you cannot do anything except watch it...

I bought a High-end Sony tv (z5500) back in 2009 and subsequently bought a mid-end Samsung tv 2012 model, and the picture quality on my Sony tv is still leaps and bounds above the Samsung one.

Samsung's 2013 F8500 plasma is a Kuro and a Panasonic killer.
Panasonic will sell its last plasma TV this March of 2014, making the 2013 line its last.

Yeah, but back then I didnt look at plasma tv's because of their added power consumption, longetivity vs. LCD, and because of direct sun light
