So I burned data cds with mp3s for my car with my old PC using Nero.

Today I tried to burn a CD with my new PC, new version of Nero and new burner (SATA3) but using CDs from the same batch.

After the burn completed, verification completed successfully - the computer reads the CD, but my car audio gives error and refuses to read it. At the same time reading a CD burned form my old PC, both burned at x48, while the CD allows x52.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a problem with my burner?
I'm burning Data CD, no multisession, finalized, with mp3 files in the root folder. Confused

mp3 cds in 2014?
don't they all have usb plugs these days?
also, i'm assuming you have checked that it does actually support mp3 playback Smile

lower speed burns are always better quality
i never burnt shit at full speed cos some drives were always very picky about disc quality

could google the player model if it's a known issue
some players might require files to be in some subfolder

1. Do not burn CD's for external readers (audio systems) with a speed higher than 8x. (4x is actually optimal.)

Yeah, I know - it will take forever. However, since you got a new drive now; it's worth testing.

2. Try burning real AudioCD (not MP3's) using ImgBurn with Write Type set to Track-at-Once (TAO) and speed set to no faster than 4x.

It will take some hassle, but ImgBurn gets generally more praise than Nero as "THE burning software you want to use". Additionally, you will be able to test if the car reader and your new writing device can even get along together.

3. Try 'Ashampoo Burning Studio' instead of Nero.

Nero burning software is not as good nowadays as it used to be in the past. Generally, people don't give much shit about burning disks anymore, so companies aren't willing to invest monies into developing such software anymore.

4. Try to find and update firmware for your current drive.

Worth a try. Maybe it'll increase the compatibility with CD's you're trying to utilize.

EDIT: 5. Check if, by any chance, the writing device doesn't use 'Incremental' as a default Wirte Type.

Incremental is good, but for compatibility with older devices Disk-at-Once is preferable.

2007 VW Polo

and yes it's playing a mp3 cd I burned on my old pc just fine, from the same batch of CDs

my fathers 2012 Polo doesn't play it either

edit: I think I found the problem: nero is burning in UDF, I will try to burn an ISO CD and see if it works

ImgBurn is the best tool since it detects if you're burning MP3's and set variables accordingly to maximize compatibility. Also, when burning for car stereos etc. stick with 8x-12x as someone suggested.

Most likely somewhere in program's advanced options -> write settings (Write Type / Write Method).

For example in IMGBurn it's this option:

I remember Ashampoo Burning Studio having the option as well.

That may totally be the case here.

UDF is relatively old file system (from mid-90s) but some readers may indeed not support it and prefer ISO 9660. Especially for Compact Discs.
