Alan Taylor ("Thor: The Dark World," "Game of Thrones") will direct and Jack Paglen ("Alien: Covenant") will pen the script for the series which is based on the novel of the same name by Russian writers Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. That book was previously adapted to the screen by Andrei Tarkovsky in 1979 into his legendary film "Stalker".
Deadline reports that "Watchmen" and "The Good Wife" alum Matthew Goode has signed on to star in the series with the pilot episode to be shot shortly. Goode play Red, a former 'Stalker' who enters the 'Zone,' an area that was once briefly inhabited by alien visitors - his mission is to scavenge technology.
Should it go to series, it would air sometime in 2017. |

So Tarkovsky's "Stalker" isn't getting remade as a series after all. The original book is.

I read part of the book after learning the STALKER games were inspired by it, but I thought it was boring. Maybe they'll incorporate some elements from the games to spice things up, like bandits, monsters, shootouts, etc.

A nu cheeki-breeki i v damke!
Part of me is insanely curious about this idea (love everything about the games, and enjoyed the atmospheric uniqueness of Tarkovsky's movie), but the remaining one is scared to death for the obvious reasons. I think it's incredibly hard to pull this off in a a believable way without making it feel like a live action thingy.. let's hope for the best.

That is one hard material to adapt. And I don't think WGN could pull it off as well as AMC - we rape the source material. Maybe HBO.
But somehow everytime I read about it I see some SyFy crap.
