The Living and the Dead from the co-creators of “Life on Mars,” Ashley Pharoah and Matthew Graham takes place in 1894 but the Industrial Revolution and modern science have largely bypassed Shepzoy, an isolated, fictional Somerset community where the series is set. Midsummer’s Eve is celebrated with a ceremonial bonfire and cider-fuelled revelry. Agricultural labourers wear smocks and lean on the handles of their scythes to scowl at newfangled farm machinery.
Nathan Appleby (Colin Morgan of Merlin fame), a pioneering psychologist specialising in trauma, has returned home from London with his photographer wife, Charlotte (Charlotte Spencer). They are taking over the ailing family farm, but Nathan is distracted from agricultural matters when his help is sought by the local vicar who is worried about his teenage daughter, Harriet.
She seems to have fallen under the spell of Abel North, an evil old man who spies on her as she gets ready for bed and who, coincidentally, has been dead for years........
The pilot was OK then it got better and the last 2-3 episodes were great+ a kinda unexpected ending. Although I have to say it was confusing at times, especially the last episode.
Spoiler:
dat car? wtf!? I suppose I could miss some important details throughout the series though..
At first I thought all villagers were dead and just refused to acknowledge it, like in The Others but then the series got kinda weird lol
The atmosphere was really good and kinda spooky, nice cinematography.
