So I've been watching this girl's psychology channel on YouTube (which is quite awesome and very informative, to be honest) and eventually I've stumbled upon this video:

So I'm watching it... and watching... scratching my head, doing a double take - it's incredible how many titles she played, how broad knowledge she has, how good taste.

"It's impossible girl can be that hardcore a gamer".

 Spoiler:

"Anatidaephobia is the fear that somewhere in the world there is a duck watching you."

Fuck Polish government for oppressing women!

"People are such awful conversationalists that they’ll interrupt you when you’re answering a question they asked."

The problems is not with the gender but with the upbringing. It's not the girls fault that currently in our generation so few girls play video games.

I guess this will change in the future when our generation has kids. It will be much more balanced.

But regarding hardcore gamer... not many hardcore games left these days. Our only bet are the indie developers Smile

a lot more girls are playing, then you'd think. They just don't say it (especially in game), because of how men (well, boys) react to them.

My fiancee and her friends could be classified as serious ('hardcore') gamers, seems it's more common over here in Sweden tbh.

2 out of 3 sisters of mine are quite into gaming. Still it felt lesser in Belgium. I had a lot of female friends whom gamed but usually they stuck to one genre not really caring about the rest.

But yeah it's not really related to gender, mostly upbringing.

I totally believe girls can like games as much as we do, just less prone to liking the types of games we like. No different with movies. And blaming stuff like upbringing as the sole cause that girls don't like games is plain and simply stupid. It's funny how female issues are always blamed one someone else, regardless what it's about. When we started gaming as kids, we were also looked down on as nerds in a most negative way, girls could have done the same, but they didn't. I didn't know a single girl that even found the slightest interest in games apart from perhaps that that single game they had tried and admitted enjoying. Typically some silly game.

I don't know what you understood with upbringing but for me it's: if you are growing up around consoles/pc/games/gamers it's more likely you'll get an interest in it.

Doesn't sound that stupid to me since most people interests spawn out of what they grew up with.

I understood it in the way that boys were given consoles while girls had barbies forced on them. I might have misunderstood though.

She just named some console names and some game names and said "I played that. I really liked it."

Sorry, maybe I'm paranoid but this could have been just aswell fake. Little research, write a script, that's it. Everybody is a "gamer".

When me and Pumpy sit down and talk about games or movies or tv series it goes a little deeper than...

I watched a, and b, and d, and e, and f, and I liked g, I liked h, ...

Dumb bitch.

Angry, because she didn't let you touch her eh? Cool Face Laughing

__

I just recently talked to paxsali about that. Was talking to my wife when my sis in law sat infront of the PC, opened VNES, loaded the Mario World rom and played until 5.1 basically grabbing all secret stuff, except for using the shortcuts. And she is 20, so not of our generation that naturally grew up with NES.

I asked why she didn't take the short cuts and she said "meh, I wanted to play it like that this time". Well she played bad, but she is generally very clumsy Laughing

Later she went back to play the sims 2, because it has all the nice expansions xD

My sister is also a gamer. We both got our first Nintendo GameBoy's in 1990 and that's when it started. She's still playing games. Right now she's a casual WoW player Razz.

And my friend, who streams on twitch ( http://www.twitch.tv/tonicathedk ) is also an experienced gamer. She and her sister have a long history of gaming. She's really different from most of the gamer girls that you'll meet on the internet. She's not a cam whore like the other ones who get tons of donations. Which is saaaaaaaad, because she is really good in some games and only a few people appreciate her skills, kindness & honesty.

Like already mentioned. The next generation of children are going to be more interested in games and stuff because of us I think. Like my niece, she loves to play videogames and she's 11. She caught me playing DayZ once and she really liked it, I told her to leave because the game isn't something for her eyes, but then I said "oh well, I wasn't different back then... my cousins let me play games like Mortal Kombat when I was like 11".

At first glance at her profile she's a bit of a typical online whore in my eyes. She's expecting people to donate moneyz for stuff for being female and playing wowz, and retards actually do it. That's the sad part.

Well, this a bit off topic now but twitch turned into a 2nd job for some people. If you knew her, then you'd have different opinion. Not everyone has rich parents and a perfect life (most of the camwhores on twitch are from rich families and have tons of time to stream and fake titas D: ).

Come and watch her stream if you have some spare time, then you'll see that twitch could use more of her kind...who are actually PLAYING games.

Not so fast! Mad
Okay, the size of the game window seems to be much bigger than the size of her cam window, so maybe your intel checks out. You Suspicious Be

My sis also games a LOT.
Mostly confined to JRPG's, all the RE games and Silent Hill games (when she finally had the guts to play them Laughing), sims, Theme Hospital which she loves (I've never played it Embarassed ) and a few others that I'm not remembering right now. And she probably will play and try even more games now that she has a decent-ish laptop (the one from the topic I made on the HW forum was for her).

Still, now I feel that that was the wrong approach... she could had camwhored her way into an even better laptop Poker Face Laughing

Personally, I don't get why you'd pay (or donate) anyone (male or female) to watch them play games. But people do it nonetheless. And if they can make a living out of it then good for them. ^_^

Because a female gives you some sob story and you immediately feel sorry for her and give her some moneyz.

I never understood the whole watch other people play thing. I guess i'm too old to really get it. I either play myself or do something else.

But then you watch a competition. That is something that i agree CAN be entertaining. Not some guy/girl playing casually while talking about god knows what. Or these let's play videos with some brofist retards being truly annoying at all times and being loud even in cutscenes (my brother showed me some of this stuff). If i would ever watch some guy playing through a game, that would be without his face and voice, or forget it.
