So my brother once took a nice picture of my other brother and his daughter... a very artistic picture..

...all of a sudden it appears on a poster sign by some american company called Autism Speaks.

Wtf? Who the hell gave them permission? They didnt ask any of my brothers if they could use it.
He usually have problem with people stealing and using his pictures...most of the time he doesnt bother with it. But this was way too much!

Another time one of his pictures of a girl in "foteviken" sweden .... a viking reenactment village turned up in some arabic online magazines where they claimed the girl in the picture was a poor russian girl who had ended up selling cloths on the street to survive.
Some extremist even tried to use it to make a statement on how bad european civilization is.

shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Creepy shit I'd look at the print and see if you can find a marketing company or some contact info, get them to remove the photo and any images they may have used without your express permission.

Sue or something, magazines can't use your pictures unless you give them permission for which they have to pay. If it's a nice looking picture especially.

Well, this is a common occurrence to many photographers. I've found some of my photos on random sites, sometimes with other people's names as creators. The same thing happened with this guy Noam Galai: http://screameverywhere.com/

It is the culture of the Internet, that there is no ownership, the creator of something in most cases are viewed with little interest or empathy. It becomes worse when people actually begin making money from stuff you've done. A friend of mine went to Serbia and found one of his photos used by a local business chain, and could do very little about it.

I have had students come to me and ask for advice on so many occasions, they've taken photos of a band, and suddenly the band starts using it. Because they have this notion that because it's an image of them, they somehow "own the rights" to it, not the photographer. The legal system doesn't spend much effort in dealing with it, so your brother will unfortunately likely run into a long frustrating process out of which few have emerged victorious.

I really understand your and your brother's frustration, but as we often see on this very forum, ownership, integrity, privacy, or decency are out of style these days. As someone said when I asked them to remove one of my images with their name on it: "Deal with it".

As harsh an advice, and as apathetic a notion it is, unfortunately trying to struggle against it is nigh on impossible.

Actually, its not that difficult to get it sorted...unless its some weird country. The americans are usually quite good at these things. But this is the first time its been printed on huge posters.
He usually dont mind if people want to share his pictures - but when its money involved he want them to atleast ask him first. All of his pictures have his name on them , so there really is no excuse.

Then your experiences are contrary to mine and my friends'. Even in the U.S. I read about people getting shit like this pulled on them (read about it several times on fstoppers too). In that case, good for your brother.
