I would upgrade stock clocks from 2700K to 4,5Ghz, that would take like 10 minutes Very Happy

I have done so in the past, the issue is that I keep having the CPU overheat (go above 90C). I had months of issues with my cooling solution, and after replacing it with a new model it still has the issue (not as bad tho). Dunno what is up, but even at 4,2 I get up to high 80ies at max burn. I just got so fed up with it I went back to stock.

A 7200 RPM HDD?

Probably a new case if I'm satisfied with the HDD performance.

Hmmm... another 290X for crossfire, assuming that you're not happy with your current performance? Or sell the one you have and try to get a 980?

Hard to tell. Do you feel like you need any upgrade at all?

I got the fractal define r4 a year ago. Razz

So the consensus is that there's not much to upgrade other than maybe a 7200rpm hard drive. I thought someone would diss my mobo Razz

I guess I'll just save the cash and wait for something else to show up.

I'd upgrade exactly nothing on that system and wait for Skylake then upgrade properly.

If anything I'd probably upgrade the stock cooling on that 290X to something like Accelero, knowing I'd lose the warranty but still. I'd take a good afternoon, get everything I need etc. and make it more silent and perform better.

This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

If I were to recommend replacing anything it would be the i7-2700k ... not because it's poor, but because YOUR particular chip is poor. Get another 2700k, one that overclocks, and you're gravy.

Hmm, maybe you're on to something here. I never really thought about that, for some reason it never entered my mind that my particular i7 might be a version that overheats.

oh, it's a typo btw, it's a 2600k

I wouldn't have thought that either, but you've tried multiple cooling solutions and it still overheats so that's a definite indicator. I know my 2500k isn't one of the God Chips® unfortunately, I'm unable to break 4.4Ghz without it sucking down nearly 1.4v and anything over 4.2Ghz causes random 0x124 stops (completely random despite voltage settings) so I've pretty much given up and left it at 4Ghz. I *should* replace it really, but the temps are great at 4Ghz with my h80 so meh.. it's fine. A stock chip on the other hand? Definitely replace it. You're losing out on *enormous* performance gains.

A nice projector maybe? Or a new pair of lenses for camera?

Nothing really, put it aside for a bigger upgrade later on.
You can gain everywhere, but I don't think they are worth the investment atm.
Well... the CPU like Sabin said would be a good investment out of all the possibilities and could be a cheap one.

Awesome case, mate. And I don't see any reason to diss your mobo since it's really great and still holds up.

Wow, I started looking for 2600K-cpus and they are selling for like 220-290€ - I might just consider switching to the newer processor architecture and motherboard. o.0

Shocked

That's just nuts. Well, these things are insanely powerful (poor Intel Very Happy) so I guess if you're paying that sort of cash you're probably better off upgrading the lot :\
