After moving out of state 3 years ago, I've had to live with roomates. I've moved like 4-5 times in the last 3 because of shady mother fuckers, but the way the bills were I could never afford it on my own.
Last winter I got rid of my car and biked to work for over a month and then bought a car with cash and massively reduced my bills.
Got a nice raise ETC at work so making more than I ever have (not as much as most but enough for me).
I'm going to spare the details of the last place I lived at causing me to lose my temper but fuck it, I found a place that was in my budget with what I was looking for and now it's mine. Been working on getting shit set up for over a week and pretty much finished it for now. Still more stuff I want to do but that'll come when it comes
The shelves are from work and not even what they were made for, I just re-purposed them, not as strong as I thought but the welders made me some support brackets that I still have to put up. Yes there are two receivers. The bottom right with the chrome is my dad's original Pioneer from the 70's. I plan on getting a record player and buying a bunch of Vinyls.
This...this is what it's all about..the space that I have. Before all I had was a room where I had that desk, my bed, my TV, speakers etc all in one room. I now have my own "office" where I can game at with tons of room.

nah I got a bedroom but there's stuff all over, nothing to see other than a bed with my shop fan sitting next to it lol.
Projector setup might come later actually.
Not sure you had the same desk because this thing is an absolute brute. Also the keyboard tray was made by me at my job when I got board. Found some hardware laying around, matched up the veneer to some we had in a rack, cut up the wood and wallah, homeade keyboard tray. I've punch the thing pretty hard and nothing even tweaked. lol.

No shit lol. I'm not tying anything down until the rest of my cables come in. Just got my new optical cable today, getting a center channel soon so more cables, ordering a new router so I can put my asus in the living room as an access point.

It's a Sanus which is one of the top of the line brands for stands. It's solid and heavy as hell with tempered smoked glass.
http://www.thesimpletvstandstore.com/p-87-sanus-pffp2b-30-to-50-flat-panel-tv-stand-black.aspx
Got it near new on Craigslist for 100 bucks. Only thing irritating about it, and I've heard this about a lot of TV stands, is you basically want to arrange your furniture how you intend to keep it then mount the TV because it's a pain in the fucking ass to adjust afterwards. I spent days tweaking the TV to make sure it was as flat as possible then said fuck it, drove to work and grabbed a level then mounted the TV so it was perfectly level lol.
Other than that, it's AMAZING, frees up a lot of space and just looks slick "floating" in the air like that. Really makes me want to get a bigger tv lol.

I'm still weirded out by the concept of roommates and how often it gets mentioned by Americans.
Is it because pay is too low over there or just that rent is too high for a single person?
I had my own place the moment I moved out around 20 years old.
That being said:
Glad you can now afford a place of your own, it's great living alone and having all the space you got! Takes away a lot of frustrations and you gain some new ones, but it's still worth it!
Place looks nice, hows the neighbourhood and still close to work?

In Estonia it's quite common to rent a place with friends. When I first started uni me and 3 friends rented a 3 room apartment. the boys in 1 room and the girls in other. Living room for everyone. Now I have my own room and my friend with his gf live in the other bedroom and living room is again for everyone. It didnt really bother me to live with some one else in the same room, except when I wanted to bring girls over

My brother also lives together with 2 roommates and he's 29. Don't see the problem. I also had a roommate after my studies for 2 years. After i broke up with my girlfriend in the past. Instead of having to pay 600-700 euros rent (which my brother could if he would), he now pays 400 and he lives in a huge penthouse with 2 rooms for himself and a south and a north terrace.
Doesn't make a lot of sense to rent something which is very expensive if you only need it to sleep and would not use half of your own place.
And buying at age 20, weeeeell. Banks here in Belgium will only give you a decent loan if you have like 20-30% of the price upfront as equity. Theres 10% real estate tax ('registration right'), and there's 2-3-4% mortgage tax. So buying a 200k appartment, which is quite cheap, with a 2000 net/month wage, which is quite high, would result in a 25k tax, 50-60k upfront needed, and a 1000/month mortgage. And banks will never give you a 1000/month loan with 2000/month net salary.
It's just a matter of not wanting to spend the money, rather than not being able to. And if you are single, having roommates is nice, you always have someone to play a game with, watch tv, or do something together.

Did you buy the apartment or are you renting it? And what's the rent?

Congratulations man! Time to parade around the apartment naked while brushing your teeth! Or eating. Or just in general.

Yeah, I'm with freiwald; where else would it go? On the desk? I guess it might be different with carpeted floors, more dust and other crap that gets sucked in, but I've got hardwood floors.

I actually got significantly more dust in my computer having hardwood floor because the dust that comes into the room naturally has no where to go or get caught in. Hardwood it just sits and glides where the airflow is, it's also heavy as hell with all the water and radiators and so forth that I got in there, I feel like I'm going to have a hernia picking it up lol.
@ Vechter, the neighborhood is your typical low key calm neighborhood. There's a school right down the road and it's a town instead of a city so cops generally have nothing to do but drive around. Crime is pretty non existent but hey...still got a gun by me all the time lol.
@Boneleech I scored it on ebay!! One of the only times I've ever seen the CE still in shrink wrap!! I think I paid like 30 bucks for it which was a steel!!

Studios are selling here at 5000/square meter at the moment 210k for 42 m2. 1 bedroom stuff...
I just checked recent prices. It's ridiculous at the small place market. 17m2 dorm room: 100,500 euros ...

AFAIK - in Poland, and probably in one of the smaller cities/towns considering the prices.
In Cracow they're around 5000-8000 zl/m^2, the one I'm renting now (47m, 2 bedrooms) was 7500/m^2 unfurnished/no floors or doors etc. So if you assume that people in Poland earn the same as the rest the Europe just in a different currency - it comes out kinda similar.
