It is a screen adaptation based on collections of tales by Neapolitan poet and courtier Giambattista Basile: Pentamerone or Lo cunto de li cunti (Tale of Tales, or Entertainment for Little Ones) which contains the earliest versions of famous fables like Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.

The three tales are La Cerva Fatata (The Enchanted Doe), La Pulce (The Flea), La Vecchia Scorticata (The Flayed Old Lady), that have been freely adapted with elements of other tales by Giambattista Basile, as well as a touch of artistic license

Haha I'm also planning to watch it for that reason Very Happy
To be honest though the fact that it's Garrone's first "international" movie is sparking my interest as well. Didn't go to the cinema because of the dubbing (as always, sadly), so the mkvdemo will make up for everything xD

Sometimes when directors go all "international" (read American) the quality of their work gets noticeably worse ...I hope this is not the case

I'm in it for the visuals. The trailers looked stunning. But the stories are suppose to be of various quality.

I watched this, was somewhat interesting, really weird too, but once I was done with it, I felt like: uhm, that was... yeah... whatever...
