Oh you'll always have a clue with this game, since the npc tagalongs are gonna blab about it within literally 5 seconds of you hitting the puzzle.

If this game wasnt as epic ss it is i'd trash it in the icy plains of helheim. When you think about the main plot and its characters, its super fucking woke. Perhaps one of the worst. Drunksrd white men, muhh feelings whaman plot dragging forever, fuck off freya, token black race insert (jotuns are now black). My finds so far. Ohh Kratos is now weaker than freya. Fuck off game, seriously.

Well, when people bother taking to much time trying to make others realize how it isn't this or that, or go straight to insults then it just means we're on to something. Not that it takes a lot of intelligence to recognize woke story beats or anything. You can agree to these beats or not, that's the difference. But trying to reject these claims is a waste of time

That's hardly what woke implies, not how it's used.

Did a quest in Ragnarok. I saw a campfire where the smoke was rainbow colored, rainbow color particles was also in the air. Well, you find some food ingredients and get drip feed the experiences of this guy who met this other guy, and the climax was about their kiss together and how them finding each other was the answer to all their problems. Fuck these devs.
That and also how they're retconning in Kratos's wife being more or less him in female form, being just as badass if not more
There is a lot to like in Ragnarok, not gonna lie. They're smart enough to have for the MOST part subtle enough virtue signaling so the dumbest of us won't even notice anything, but it's there and there is a ton of it. Well, it's not JUST virtue signaling, but rather catering to imbecile gen z

Fuck that indeed. Then again, it's prevalent in all media now. Netflix managed to ruin my all-time favourite graphic novel, Sandman, with their utterly stupid character and plot changes, made simply to fit the kind of narratives you mention. And fuck Neil Gaiman for selling out to them when they did it. I guess a big enough pile of money made his discard his principles and change an all time classic story. Film, TV, games....they're all terrified of upsetting minorities with loud voices

I bet these festering gashes of purple butch hair in their teams are creating all kinds of drama internally.

Putrid dialogues and questionable developments aside, it was a quite alright game. Nothing spectacular, but alright. It could have been a lot better.
Scenery was fantastic as expected
Characters were.... Well, the good ones are fantastic, but most of the additions are trash.
Music was alright
Combat was a chore at points. Too much menu crawling and upgrade-o-rama. Easy to miss stuff
If you take older God of War into account the bosses are disappointing. Not very big. Medium at best, and it's most in a Dark souls way.
But 2 things point at utter incompetence, and these shouldn't be questions when the series is over.
Spoiler: | Question 1: We're shown scenes of Faye and Kratos when she still lived. We learned things about her as we progressed the story, but we never learned HOW she died. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. We know she fought thor and he still has his mark from it, but that can't be it. No chance as Kratos didn't know anything and they did have a child together after her giantess shenanigans. So how did she die?
Question 2: HOW DID KRATOS GET TO SCANDINAVIA? FFS these are basic questions that shouldn't be needed to ask. With no answer it feels like dev going "Let's just do this because it's cool kek" |

Even the good, non annoying characters, they turned annoying by making them fuckin talk too much. I know they did it in 2018 but it was taken to the extreme in this one. Constant yammering about how im on fire and poisoned or frozen. Same dialogues repeated over and over. Just shutup. The new characters could all be tossed into the garbage can. Not a single interesting one. Why was that villager kid that Atreus meets even in the game?
Oh and that fat female dwarf with the southern US accent? Holy shit back to Borderlands with you.
Combat was meh, same problems as 2018.. no matter how skilled you are you will get one shot if the enemy is more than 1 level ahead of you. The runic powers were seemingly nerfed, given that you just take crazy amounts of damage if an enemy combos you while you're trying to use one. I dont remember how this was handled in 2018 but it didn't feel as bad.. many of the runic powers are useless since they have a huge windup.
Same laughable FOV means you're constantly watching the screen for indicators of projectiles.. bosses were improved from 2018 but you are correct in that they're garbage compared to the bosses from the ps2 and ps3 games.

Additionally, for me anyway, such a narrow FOV brings on the motion sickness that I normally only get from first person viewpoints. At least give people the option to change it -or set the damn camera back far enough in the first place for it to make sense.

I completed this one over Christmas
I enjoyed it but it was a slower paced game and I’m not sure it’s a better game than the first either. Bigger in every way but God of War 2018 really was special because it was unique compared to previous games in the series. Despite having a brand new epic story this just felt like an expansion to me but more of the same is by no means a bad thing.
Spoiler: | The Tyr/Odin twist was great and certainly surprising! |
I’ve still got plenty of side content and endgame activities to do but I got annoyed when I was unable to find the last raven having found 47 out of 48 so I’ve taken a break from it for the time being.
And as much as I hated the Valkyrie fight, I hate the Berserkers more lol.
Definitely a 9/10 game though in my opinion.
May the NFOrce be with you always.

The first one's pacing wasn't great either but it was nothing as bad as this. Compare the original trilogy's pacing where you're always on an upward trajectory towards some massive set piece, or labyrinth or gauntlet or what not. I guess one of my big beefs was that the realms didn't feel different or creative enough. Svartelheim had... fuckin geysers? Vanaheim was a jungle with poison plants annoyingly placed every couple hundred yards? Asgard was visually impressive with that massive wall, but it turned into a "press x to climb" challenge. Jotunheim, a secret realm hidden away from the gods was ruined by a fuckin 2 hours sequence of riding on a yak collecting berries and bullshit. I just don't get it..
The modern games you're running around a fairly bland open world doing the same puzzles and challenges and nornir chests over and over again doing your checklist BS for completionists with OCD.
I read that Kratos' voice actor had a lot of health problems and was out for a while, which would explain all the padding they did with the story. Explains a lot actually.

This game has like the most derp level design ever, it is so linear, and every damn ledge or so is marked so you cant miss them, feels so retarded, modern gaming is truly shit these days.

Finished this yesterday. I can definitely agree on all of the points above. But worst of all, why the fuck Spoiler: | did we have to go to Suldr and have him become Ragnarok, when nothing of that mattered in the end? First you expect him to help you storm Asgard, but he just becomes derp and you manage to do it anyway without issues. Then after Odin is dead, I thought he might go rogue and that is the true final boss when his giant sword comes down, but no all that is does is being a plot device to separate Kratos from Atreus for like all of 3 minutes. All this build-up throughout the whole game for literally nothing?
If AT LEAST they would have went the "we had the power within us all along and our frienship was all we needed" route but they couldn't even be arsed to do that cheap trick. |
There is just no purpose to anything happening in this game. Basically the only thing that prohibited them from going to kill Odin right at the beginning of the game was not being able to go to Asgard because they were missing the McGuffin Horn to blow.
There is no motive to anything here. At least TLOU2 had "revenge is senseless" as a motive and I wouldn't even have minded a simple "I need kill to get what I want" mindset as Krato's solution. But it's neither that he realizes that violence is bad nor does he fully commit to it to create peace. The only thing he finds out is that Spoiler: | he loves his son and needs to connect with and trust him. Duh, who would have thought that |
“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”

Played this over the weekend and I can tell it doesn't have the same impact as the one from 2018. One of the reasons might be because I recently finished that one on PC and know what to do all the time, but it lacks that something special.
You can tell Cory didn't direct this one.
Sure, it looks cool and all, but something is missing.

That's because what made god of war good was:
- Polished side-scrolling platformer with combo's gore etc.
- Had cool set piece bosses.
- Was flexible in the level design scale that made the levels fun to play through.
- The artstyle focused on the greek gods and spartans.
These new games arn't really god of war games.
