They really put lipstick on a pig with this one. This has to be the worst Souls game and I played Dark Souls 2. The game is full of gimmicks, chore mechanics and all kind of artificial barriers. On top of that, there are some blatant technical issues. The hitboxes are all over the place, the enemies block you with their backs, you take hits through your shield. The dodge is extremely unreliable, especially since it suffers from weird delays sometimes. I don't think I played this game for 20-30 minutes without noticing some weird behavior.
I really have a hard time enjoying this, and lol, they have the audacity to ask 70-80 euro for it.
Found it "cheap" so i got it... graphics are nice, i was surprised how janky the movement feels, but its been a while since i played a souls game.
Wasn't a great experience starting the game though, it needed to connect to some server and i had to wait for like 20 minutes with a message that i should restrain from turning off the system or exiting... then getting a message that it can't connect. so much for fast loading SSD's when you have to wait 20 minutes on a game trying to connect to some server.
Also the install is kind of buggy because it tells you it's possible to play after like 90%, but when you try it'll just say it can't start the app. at first i thought my install was broken, but i saw later that it was still installing.
Edit: ok, my PS5 wasn't connected to the internet. kinda shitty you can't see this anywhere directly, even quickly going to the Store works (tried it yesterday since i did wonder if i was connected). Should work now (10+ GB update downloading).
no idea why the internet suddenly went down for it, turning off/on the router fixed it..
The movement is as janky as the original demon's souls, they did it on purpose, which is retarded.
This isn't a fighting game in the end, where framedata plays a role.
Graphics are very nice, but the movement is really jarring when you play it after Sekiro or Bloodborne.
yes, i really dislike it. difficulty should never be set by e.g shitty movement. i have already felt i've died numerous times because of the movement. it feels so digital and crappy/unprecise. Also the lock-on target doesn't always take, sometimes you are really close and it still won't take.
I doubt its a game i will finish, will most likely sell.. its just such a total grind. such cool atmosphere and graphics though, kind of a waste.
I love it, personally, just like in the other souls games
Never thought of Souls movement as imprecise... the opposite actually (except DS2 I guess)
imo, they sacrificed natural/fluid movement for precision. where your character turns on a dime immediately when you move the stick.
whereas in many other games your character has to actually gradually turn rather than just flip the direction instantly
THAT is imprecise to me.
something like witcher 3 or I think AC, or the last of us.
granted, it looks janky when there's direction changes that fast, but it also just feels so good to me, so responsive. definitely my favorite third person movement.

Souls games do have much more precise combat compared to most other games, it's just that the animations in Demon's Souls feel extremely janky nowadays, the gameplay is still superb though.
It's basically the opposite of RDR2, which had amazing animations, but because of them taking priority the gameplay felt so fucking sluggish that I will never replay the game even though I loved it the first time.
I think it feels unresponsive actually, for some reason it doesn't feel like that in the starting area, i played around a lot with moving around (to get good) there and i was quite satisfied.. Then when you enter like the first area it felt different and more unresponsive. So to me it seems like it varies, maybe it gets better again.. might be tied to the FPS in some way where the starting area is better. no clue.
You are playing in 60 fps performance mode though obviously?
Otherwise it could be the controller's fault or if there are too many things in front of it.
At times when I hold the Dual Sense just slightly below the table, it keeps missing inputs, or if there are too many beer bottles in front of me on the weekend
fucking soul arrows are totally weird, doesn't work in stairs i guess,
even if you have the enemy marked, character just points without shooting. not liking dying when there's such issues, especially when i'm in souls form and i had been playing for 20+ minutes to get to that point.. time for a break before i grind another 100 times to get to that place i guess (i will admit i do suck at gaming, hasn't gotten better by age)
i messed a little with the controller settings, its a bit better now i think. i actually turned down the speed a little.
I noticed that the Dual Sense, atleast for me, is super finnicky when it comes to the wireless connection, alot more so than any other similiar controllers like PS4, Xbox etc.
Any fucking shit between the Dual Sense and the PS5 will cause plenty missed input for me, when I sit in front of the tv then everything is smooth, but as soon as a fucking insect flies in front of me, that's it.
interesting. wireless equipment overall usually works terrible in my home, i'm not sure its because i have a lot of.. stuff. maybe i'll try wired (if that even works?)
the character points without casting? that's what happens when you're out of mana.
if you have mana he will cast even without a target, it'll just go straight ahead. stairs are not a problem
is this your first souls game? should be just like dark souls
and yeah there is wired but you gotta enable it in the system settings somewhere. by default even if you connect the controller it'll just charge but still communicate wirelessly

Completed last night, i was somewhat shocked that it was so short ( comparing to other FS games ).
Can tell that FS improved the formula from this game, there's a lot mechanics that are alike but Elden Ring is the one that feels closer to Demon Souls.
Visuals were fantastic, Bluepoint did a great remake - if only they could do that to Bloodborne
Bosses were very very easy comparing to other titles, but probably because a battle mage build seems to be kinda OP
Yeah the main redeeming part about this game is that it's the only amazing looking PS5 game and its optimized like a mofo too. Game itself didnt age particularly well.
