*Started up Project Cars.*
Oh, the intro video is not running, strange.
OK, let's load up the game.
That loading was fast and the game is running much more fluid than before, nice!
But... it also looks nicer ?!
*Checking options*
The game runs better than before (everything set to medium) and all settings are at ultra O_O
*Start up GTA IV*
60FPS
This new processor is only 0.4GHz faster per core, but the difference feels like 100% faster, seriously

These water-cooling kits do not allow that much more than the cheaper air-cooling solutions. A few degrees more or less dont mean anything really. (imo)
My 3570K runs at constant 4.5Ghz on a Thermalright Macho and I cant even hear it over the case fans of my Fractal R4.
And then on GTAV, you certainly would not notice any substantial difference between 4.2-4.5Ghz so no need to "kill" that i7. Better keep it alive and resell it later on.

I just use the Thermalright fan that came with it.

Its huge though, so it will certainly not fit in your Mini PC, if you are ever planning on using it there.

Yeah, pCars was running better than before but far away from 60fps :/ But at least I can adjust the settings now so that I can at least somehow reach 60.
With my previous rig I couldn't play on some tracks because of the horrible stutter, even on the lowest settings and with no AI present
@Sabin: Thanks for reminding
BTW the mainboard accepted the CPU without any problems. Actually the BIOS is quite great, as it can update itself without booting into any os (my last mainboard was a budget biostar mainboard from 2010)
My only complaint would be that I could hear some very high pitched sounds, which I suppose come from the capacitors on the mainboard :/ I have to see if the sound disappears upon longer usage or if it becomes stronger (in which case I'll send it back :/ )

That's great Pumpy, next gen duck process - 80% complete!
I'll probably end up buying a 970 too (don't know when though, here's hoping there aren't any unforeseen problems in the next weeks), because after three years of complete abstinence in terms of new hardware the lil' piggybank is starting to look somewhat alive again.

@mr_s: Not yet. It has to be the new mobo :/
This CPU is really ultra fast. Chrome doesn't get stuck anymore because of some silly gifs or youtube videos on the epic thread. Generally the whole clogging up of the system is gone. Loading times decreased immensely (pcars loads up at least twice as fast!) And apparently hard drive access is also much faster. My amd went up to 25% when loading data from my hdd, the Xeon doesn't fucking care
Also windows 8.1 is fucking great. No problems at all! I only had to boot with ide, then enabled ahci in windows and reboot. It downloaded most of the required drivers automatically and offered a lot of assistance. No reinstall required even though everything except for hdd and graphicscard changed

If your system crashes you get a whole lot of options to fix it (refreshing the system, directly accessing system settings, command line, registry etc etc etc), it's lightning fast, the energy saving settings that did not work in 7, work flawlessly in 8 and it boosts in seconds. In games I didn't see a bit of change. So overall for me Win 8.1 >>>> Win 7

Now I'm hesitating about going only with a 4 core CPU (4690K)... damn you pumpy!

1231v3 is also only 4 core. It has HT to fully utilize the CPU if an application has to do several smaller tasks at once, so that 8 cores can work on it. But if you are going with a 4 core application that takes a lot of power, you will not see any difference. Also your K is overclockable... you have to shell out a LOT of money for an i7 that is overclockable :/

And it's only a 100€ difference for a 4790K.
The problem for me is, that that "only" is really a lot.

One more stupid thing I totally forgot -> the asrock 85b dgs has only 2 dimm slots, I forgot to check

Are you willîg to pay 50-100€ more for that promise?
