That's a way to bump my old topic Laughing (lot changed since then)

Instead of getting overpriced sennheisers(although hd6xx seem like good deal) I would recommend getting Fiio e10k(or similar dac) and koss porta pro. It's great sounding headphone. Good for both music and games thanks to open design. What surprised me is how much bass it has.
Always when I am in media markt or similar store, I compare porta pro to other way more expensive headphones and it always owns most of them if not all.
It's very subjective and I would not recommend it to anyone who needs isolation so... but Koss Porta pro is a headphone with huge fanbase. There even is this dude who makes 10k $ wav players and recommend porta pro for it... and people buy it and love it grinhurt lol wut

but I do not want to be in position where I have to use overear closed again. With porta pro there is no more sweating or any discomfort. I can wear them for hours. I had some gaming headphones and while some were pretty ok they were always making some part of my head or ears hurt. My gf now have Creative Aurvana Live which I bought her for birthday and its a very nice headphone(especially with brainwavz hm5 pads) but it hurts on top of my head after hour (I had it years ago).
And the Bass is just stupidly good. Friend came by some time ago and was having fun of my "shitty little headphones"but when I made him to try it (Almost like "They Live") he was genuinely surprised and said he would not expect such sound from something looking this fragile.

Sennheiser sound might be good but it never was for me. Always when I try them, it sounded kinda away. Maybe that's the point... although I've tried 600/650 and px100 and those were pretty good.

There is no such thing as "stupidly good bass". Either the headphone is neutral, and you hear as much low frequency as was intended in the mix, or the headphone has an exaggerated or limited frequency response. That Koss looks like a cheap headphone (http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/venerable-koss-porta-pro-page-2#cFbutIPu8US6DBXr.97). Better to save your money on a better headphone.

I had headphone with flat response. Brainwavz hm5 and it was boring and tiring with highs.

Not everyone is music creator. Headphones for media should be musical.
And porta pro is just that. It makes music and games sound alive, musical and open. At the same time I dont think bass is overbloated. Innerfidelity loves that headphone. Graphs are not everything. He says px100 is more neutral while in testing I found px100 to be very very overbassed while portapro sounded closer to normal. I guess headphones differ from unit to unit.

The way its meant to be heard is bullshit. Sorry... Especially while music creators use stuff like ath m50 for mixing...

The Brainwavz HM5 are tiring because they are closed back. "Music creators". Such a meaningless title. Many many professional audio engineers use open back headphones because they produce a much more accurate and neutral sound. Even yo yo rap hip yo hop "music creators" use neutral headphones because they need to know have the base line of low frequency, otherwise they will get a distorted sound and it will be lackluster on anything but the headphones they listened to.

Than you probably just don't have enough graphs Razz

I don't know about headphones, but there are successful studies linking measurements to subjective sound quality for speakers. But the usual measurements (e.g. on axis frequency response) you get for speakers are simply not enough.

Similar things will probably apply to headphones as well.

Btw those studies also demonstrate that a flat response is easily the most liked response for speakers and I'd be surprised if this was different for headphones except measurements due to close proximity and angle of the headphones may make things different. The idea of musical transducers truly is nonsensical to me. It should be reproduction first. Why would you assume that every material in the world was mixed in a way that it should not be listened to and the same correction works for everything?

Though of course, in the end, everyone should just use what entertains them, since that is the idea. However, I will talk back to these ideas, because audio is filled with too much bullshit and voodoo as it is. Very Happy

I've registered here just to say thank you. I've gained much more time on the life clock from laughing at your posts than I have lost in reading them.

Besides the point, don't use a general blanket statement about music creators using ath-m50 for mixing like it's the only thing they take out of their drawers when they mix with cans. It's a low end entry model for monitoring mixes and more specifically working turntables at a small venue, needless to say they do a good job at the price point if you KNOW what you're using them for.

Comparing Koss' Portapros that have the aesthetics and comfort of a '90s clear Blue Talkboy Deluxe duct taped to your head to a closed back pair of ATH-m50 (hm5 as well) is just laughable to say the least. They're a different form factor entirely, the purpose of them is entirely different. The Koss' are purely a throwaway pair of fragile, travel worthy on-ear headphones with lacking highs and over-tweaked lows that are muddy at $28.

thanks for registering! hi!

It's not about the looks. I just wanted to say that porta pro sounds way better than it costs and looks but not that it matters in anyway. Headphones are very subjective and everyone should try as much different pairs as possible to hear what he likes most.

Anyone still wants the HD6XX and can't wait for the next drop on massdrop (which I'm sure will come)? Got this email today http://i.imgur.com/MIMTfWH.png and don't want to rejoin as I doubt I'll get the low serial ones (even though I tried to join below the first 500). But can rejoin if someone still wants them and will transfer me the money for them with his address. I'll just edit the address and use your address for massdrop to send to. It's $199.99 + 13 or 15 bucks shipping if outside of US.

There's still a few good hours left to complete the first step (in the email), but guess no one really wants it; so moving on. In two hours won't be able to check for messages if someone would be interested until the time runs out to complete the first step and then it would be already too late.

Yeah, but can't really compare. AKG's drop was made in China and the HD6XX are still made in Ireland. From Cheaper materials, but still got better quality control (the Chinese have learned and even the cheap products from China are better these days). People that received early builds of HD6XX for reviews didn't have any problems really.

Low quality drivers, shitty build quality. Logitech is a peripheral company. They know jack shit about doing anything audio related.

Everyone has a budget lol, tell me you have no budget and I'll get you spending your entire bank account. RazzRazzRazz

Example:

Left side is open back. This opens up the sound stage so it makes you feel more surrounded by the sounds/music. Most people who love music tend to go for this kind because of the details you get to hear and being able to place where the musicians are.

Right side is closed back, much better bass response, usually people who listen to more rap/dubstep/electronic go for this kind.

Each has it's benefits, but ultimately, you can almost never beat the sound of open back. Especially in gaming. Footsteps in FPS are easily distinguished, RPG's background noise makes you feel like you're there in it.

Where do you order from so I can take a looksy at what you have available.

Check this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Zeos/comments/57ml11/guide_gaming_headphones_mics/

Good recommendations and explanations. Also this: http://www.head-fi.org/a/headphone-buying-guide

Not sure if any of them recommend ModMic for the perfect headset setup, but I'd throw it there too. Their mics are pretty good and priced well, if you don't want to buy/use a dildo mic: http://www.modmic.com/collections/modmic?view=list&sort_by=best-selling

Well, with that mod all except the ones that don't have detachable cables, or even when they do, the 3.5mm jacks won't work (like the HD650/6XX or AKG 7XX). But then there's a mod that works with any headphones which I linked above (modmic). The only BIG minus to it is the extra cable that you'll have to mask with your current one.
