'Infinity Blade' Concept Was Conceived For Kinect
Quote: | Here's a neat one. The creative nucleus of Infinity Blade [$5.99] was originally concieved as a Kinect title instead of an iOS game. Game creator Chair Entertainment's co-founder Donald Mustard explains in another delicious Joystiq interview post.
"We always have some cool ideas on deck, and kind of the inception of Infinity Blade began as a discussion around: 'If we were going to make a Kinect title, what would we make? What would a Chair Kinect game look like?'," he said.
"That discussion happened, you know, a year and a half ago. We had this really cool design, and it's not that dissimilar from the game you're playing today; it's just been refined and adapted to the iOS screen, which honestly I think is where the design works the best. "
Mustard neglected to get specific about what ideas were being thrown around in these conceptual stages of Infinity Blade, but theoretically, a Kinect version of the action RPG would have you acting out the sword swings and parries and near-miss dodges with your body and arms instead of your fingers. It's a neat idea, and what's wild is, it could totally work. Kinect fairs best with broad, sweeping motions such as a pretend sword slash. But that's not to say Infinity Blade sucks on the iOS. It's, as we've said before, a fantastic Chair joint.
The kicker here is that even though plans changed for Infinity Blade, a Kinect version could still happen. "Yeah," other Chair co-founder Geremy Mustard told Joystiq, "if the Kinect really takes off over the holiday season, who knows?" |
May the NFOrce be with you always.

dude you have no idea how freemium games get.
get farmville. give it to a teen. watch your credit card bill go up to 3000.
it's fucking horrid.
But it's easy to get money in this game. get high enough and you can purchase it all and you all really need is one set of each.

Man this game has some epic bullshit moments. If you get hit once there's no getting out of it, just chain stun hit until they're done, I hate that shit.
Also, is there any purpose to mastering things other than an occasional skill point? The only difference I ever see is wasted experience...

well i was able to get to lvl 45 before bloodline 20 by mastering all the shit.
other than that it's just for the achievement to own / master 100 items.
if it were like pokemon where a certain blade would work best against an iced fucker or a troll or a black knight then yeah there'd be a point, but once you own the infinity blade... it's easy...

IMO, still good value for the money. I mean, yeah, it doesn't last forever. But that said, it is a mobile game that cost 5 bucks. So the amount of entertainment i've gotten out of it allready in only day has allready been worth 5 bucks to me.
They definatly could improve a lot though, and it appears they will with coming updates.
I've yet to beat that fag god king. I'm on bloodline 4 now.. The game definatly has bullshit moments where once an enemy gets a hit on you, they can chain that shit and you get royally fucked.
And yeah, the point to mastering items is the skill point. Once an item is mastered move on to a different one. Those skill points add up.

Epic Games has been âhugely successfulâ with the iOS title Infinity Blade. Epic vice president Mark Rein says that Infinity Blade has greatly surpassed Shadow Complex in terms of sales figures.
Now where is my Shadow Complex iOS port so that I can play that damn game????

Quote: | We all had a suspicion that Infinity Blade [$5.99] was continuing to sell well at this point in its life, but we havenât had a number to back us up. Now, we do. According to Epic Games and creator Chair Entertainment, the hack and slash third-person action game has raked in around 10 million dollars in earnings. Thatâs⊠a lot of games and in-game gold sold.
What gives, asks the indie developer with a good game that hasnât accrued this kind of landmark dough? While Infinity Blade is a good game and a technical marvel to boot, itâs also had a heck of a lot of external support from two well-known entities: Epic and Chair. I think that helps to explain why itâs sold so much in so little time. It was also a flagship game for the UDK, which certainly drew some a lot of extra eyes to the project.
Epic released this number for a reason: it wants me, you, and every developer out there to know that thereâs a market for core, Unreal Engine 3-powered titles out there. Mark Rein, Epic VP and co-founder, says in statement that Epic is âlooking forward to our licensees achieving spectacular results of their own,â as if this perfect storm isnât so perfect. |
Now start work on Infinite Blade 2 and make it free roam like the Epic Citadel

What exactly keeps you guys playing this? I played for two hours, not much variety. How do you not get bored by the five kinds of enemies and three kinds of attacks?

All I'm hoping for from Infinity Blade 2... is the ability to actually explore and roam around the area, rather than it being a Myst-like "click to go here" title. Give me something like Epic Citadel, with the glorious Infinity Blade fights. Now THAT is an academy award-winning ending.

And what is a "significant" percentage? 10%? 15%? The vast majority of Android devices are really weak with no GPU to speak of. Epic have already said that the engine is not out for Andoird devices because of fragmentation. Basically they are taking the console tardo developer (aka Carmack) road of claiming that the large fragmentation is not worth the development and support time.
