Did you play Ratchet & Clank Rift Part ? In performance mode with ray tracing at 60 fps? Now that is what an actual PS5 game looks.
Not only looks, but how it makes great use of the SSD (although it's a gimmick it's still a nice).
Even The Last of Us Part 1 (remake) looks better than what you'd expect on PS4.
This, not so much. Still, it looks great, no problem about it.

Watching a few live streams. The levels looks way too much like obstacle courses. I'm thinking about the Swedish TV show "Fångarna på Fortet" (Prisoners at the fort) - something built specifically to be an obstacle course, and not like something which just happens to be there, a lived in, natural world.
Never got that feeling when i played Elden Ring, or even UBI soft games for that matter.

I thought the PS4 scene was more on point. Where is the rls? Couldn't find any P2P one, what is the name?

The game looks extremely dated and the gameplay loop is pretty much the same with most of the previous cons being present here. I only managed to play about 4-5 hours, but the level design seems rather linear.
The writing and story presentation are spotless so far.

So far not super impressed tbh. Feels like a dlc. Sound mix is downgraded , the satisfying axe throw/return lost that impactful sfx. And can barely hear the blades of chaos cut through enemies. I saw a patch released that claimed to improve the sound mix so I’m curious to see if it sounds better. Enemies are damage sponges like first game but I’ve not upgraded gear too much. Only 2 hours in
For some reason they managed to make the UI worse, Just menus within menus within menus.
Graphics wise its obviously nothing compared to demons souls ps5 which was an amazing looking game.

watching yet another stream, this is 6h in or something, now it looks like a Disney amusement park instead, doesn't look like a realistic or lived in world at all, Everything is claustrophobically small too. Seems super overrated imo.

PS4 Pro isn't that old (and even FAT PS4 is from 9 years ago).
You should watch that Digital Foundry video on page 2 before saying this

Even the first one was overrated and its issues were overlooked. Ragnarok is the result of the lackluster criticism. All the problems of the original carried over, like the terrible map or every annoyance of the combat system. But as expected from a sequel, it has a few problems of its own. The extreme handholding is a particularly hilarious one, you can't do anything in this game without a companion yelling at you how to solve puzzles or handle bosses. The production quality has dropped with floating objects and poorly synced animations being a common occurrence. But the worst of the bunch is the narrative pacing. You waste so much time in a pseudo open world filled with combat checkpoints and locked collectibles, yet so many narrative moments happen too fast or out of coincidence, without any build up towards them. I don't recall Deus ex Machina being a problem before and it's a shame, because it takes away from the writing quality which is generally good.

Yeah, i heard the writing is pretty decent. I watched Mauler's stream on it.. there are some ridiculous parts where his wife painted the entire world with places where they can climb (lol), why describe such a thing in the story, very dumb. I think it's something that the characters should be unaware of, for them its not there it's just something that the player sees as a part of the game's UI.

until pc version i couldnt helped myself and watched some stream here and there, the more i watched the more the hype meter went down, combat looks great but they seemed to turned kratos into a soft person...
character development yes sure, BUT idk if thats what everyone wanted and if it worked...and some other things they seemeed to screwed up..
i hoped this wasnt gonna be another gow ascension..

I think like that sometimes.. with all the new games that come out that are just blah.. maybe im getting too old for this hobby (i'm in my 30s for what it's worth). Then a game like Elden Ring or what have you comes out and i get sucked back in. It's definitely not the case.. just too many crappy games and devs now.

I just spent almost 2 hours riding a yak and being forced to pick fruit and roots. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING. HOW does this escape play testing without every single tester telling the devs this section of the game is complete garbage?

The game is filled witch fetching and filler elements. It's pretty much a PS2 era game.

I finished it. Now I can say with certainty that this is one highly overrated game. The gameplay is extremely repetitive with a Ubi-esque formula from start to finish. The combat is troubled and gimmicky. The graphics are dated and the production value shows signs of rush everywhere. However, I was expecting all of these and I was willing to suffer through for a good story. But this time around the story misses the mark. The narrative is full of pacing problems, weird moments, coincidences and cheap pay offs that lack a proper buildup. There are some narrative highs which are fantastically crafted. But they can't make up for all the lows, the mediocrity and the time spent to reach them.

Yeah I'm somewhat disappointed too.
It's still very good overall I think (like 8.5-9/10, I'd still very much prefer this over a Horizon or AssCreed), but doesn't address the issues I had with the first game and doesn't deliver on the hopes I had for this.
So I think I actually prefer GOW2018 to Ragnarok. It just felt sharper, better tuned and conceived, even if it was lacking in things like enemy variety. Every scene felt so impactful in that game and it was well paced out.
Ragnarok still has the same issues left unresolved but also comes with inconsistency in storytelling and pacing that wasn't there in 2018.
Considering how much is 1:1 from GOW2018 like assets and animations and music and the engine itself (feels like an expansion) I expected way more epic cutscenes and boss fights, akin to the older games, now that we've had this more personal introduction in GOW2018.
I wanted Ragnarok to be this GoW3 style crazy thing that blows me away and it really wasn't.
Couldn't quite believe it was over when the credits rolled. I was sure there had to be more - so many things I expected (and were set up in some way, dialogue or prophecy boards or whatever) did not make an appearance.
Also missed opportunity to get the blade of olympus or something for another epic kratos history moment. And where the hell is Sleipnir? I don't get to use Mjolnir? The grandmother story just ends there? Who blew the horn in the last game? Arrgghh
Feels like the director of this game let himself get influenced too much. It lacks the clear vision of the first game imo and the scale just isn't grand enough for something like Ragnarok in God of War.
I assume some of that stuff can be picked up in future games (time travel is coming in another game then?) but I thought this was the finale of this nordic world/story, and as such, it left me scratching my head at the end.

I've had similar feelings about this franchise in general. The original God of War had a great pacing, buildup and heft to whatever it did. The PS2/PS3 sequels felt disjointed in camparison, with GOW3 at least being campy fun in its own way.
GOW2018 was the first sequel to feel like "more than the sum of its parts".

I thought GoW2 was the best.. GoW3 has aged fairly well and still looks great imo. Played it a year ago or so. I still love that optical illusion puzzle in Hera's garden.
This game is just.. off. I think it's probably the lack of direction.. whereas 2018 had a clear goal in mind, get to the mountain and spread the ashes. This one just ambles along with terrible pacing. I have no clue where I am in the story arc tbh.

finished it and by god did it drag on. this had to be the worst pacing of any game i've ever played. Exploration was a joke too especially towards the end.. why do i need to waste time with the shitty puzzle->battle->puzzle->battle gameplay loop over and over again if i already have enough xp and craft mats? and the puzzles are just the same ones literally recycled over and over again. Not sure if the devs were lazy, or worried gamers wouldn't be able to figure out puzzles, or both. And the non stop npc following or chattering.. after the first game and 20 hours of this one you've heard everything there is for them to say but they just don't shutup. There's almost no silence or unforced NPC interaction in this game

I just CBA with tedious puzzles in games at all these days. that moment when you walk into an empty area, no enemies around, no clue on how to proceed, just a few random objects and/or blocked paths...my heart just sighs.
