WELL, I only played for an hour after it unlocked last night.. and sheesh...
Spawned and had no idea what to do, started to blast a few rocks apart, there's little tutorial messages in the corner but they're a fuckin' mess, was completely lost (I have literally not looked up, or watched any recent gameplay).
After walking around for a few minutes I was immediately attacked and killed by some flying robots. Yay.
Respawned and started to figure out what the game wanted me to do. Started to explore a bit and walk around, then the game decided to send me on a 15 (FIFTEEN) minute walk/run to go get a stupid ass resource I needed to fix my ship. And, yep, goddamn 15 minutes BACK to the ship.
I scanned and scanned for closer materials but the game refused to indicate any other than the ones far as fuck away. Whatever, it's an explore game, sure.
Finally got that crap together, explored a bit, gathered some stuff (and holy fuck is the inventory system AWFUL). Made it back to the ship, and took off. Wanted to fly around my planet a bit more but the stupid fucking tutorial blobs wouldn't calm their shit about me leaving the planet, and I couldn't figure out how to land anyways.
Got into space and didn't know what I was doing, but the game kept spamming me about boosting and warping and all this other bullshit. Told me to go find a hyperdrive or something, saw a space station, game kept spamming me about boosts and shit, so I aimed at the station and pushed the buttons.
Well, I guess it liked that, I flew at the station with some haste, pressed every button on my controller to stop warping but it didn't give a fuck, it just kept flying. Luckily it auto dropped me out of warp or whatever when I approached the station. Flew in, landed. Game wouldn't shut the fuck up about how I had unredeemed bonus materials so I finally did that, apparently it was a ship that replaced my ship.
After looking around an insanely empty landing area in the station, I called it a night.
Definitely going to reset my progress and try again, was just trying to mess around and like I said, only got an hour in, but it was pretty frustrating. Maybe if I take it slower I can understand it better.
EDIT:
Round 2: I must be doing something wrong. The inventory is SO AWFUL and SO LIMITED. You max out almost immediately within the first 10 minutes of the game and I can't figure out what to do about it. I guess I can trash items, but then what was the point of picking them up..
There's a stupid option to "Move and Stack", and I have several items that are the SAME FUCKING THING, but it doesn't let you stack them.
Haha you paint such a bad picture of the game! I have no doubt this is not a game for everyone or that everyone will like. After you get the first mineral deposit to repair the ship, Heridium or something, which can be an upto 10 minute walk there and back it becomes more available but yes there is a lot of walking in the game.
And the Sentinels are seriously annoying at times. Their temperament varies from planet to planet. Sometimes they attack you for doing anything but more often than not they will only attack if attacked or you try and break into a factory or something they are protecting.
It didnt take me long to get used to doing things and yes the inventory could do with some refining.
You can only stack the ore and mineral resources. I think its 250 in the exosuit inventory and 500 in the ship. Prior to the patch it was 100 in both the exosuit and ship inventory so things have been made MUCH easier. You do still have to monitor and juggle what you are carrying. You can transfer to the ship no matter how far away it is but you have to be in range of the ship to transfer from the ship. Kinda dumb but it works. The inventory stacking is also an additional feature following the day one patch.
The stations are also pretty empty I guess I would agree with that but once you get the Atlas Pass you can open locked doors which give the option to upgrade the exosuit inventory and find other items needed to create warp cells rather than having to gather the resources.

Cant you upgrade slots on backpack & ships (or maybe you have to buy or find bigger backpack & ships)?
And btw you have the day one patch, right (Bigger inventory)?
There are areas on the planets that allow you to add inventory slots to the exosuit or behind the locked doors if you have an Atlas Pass but for a price. As far as I know the only way to add inventory slots to the ship is to replace it either by finding one on a planet and repairing it or speaking to the other ships that land at stations and offering to buy them which can be super expensive!
May the NFOrce be with you always.

lol I didn't really mean to paint a bad picture, I just didn't get a chance to experience anything that really blew me away.
I like the way the game looks, the technology behind the game is impressive, and the action feels ok.
Navigating around is a bit of a boring chore, but at the same time, the scope is impressive. But really, let me boost around faster especially in my ship.
Supposedly the worlds/space is supposed to have "more" stuff going on? Haven't seen that yet, planets are barren as a motherfuck and nothing ever happens in space, once in awhile a giant ship will be floating there doing nothing.
Funny the game wanted to instant rape me with flying robots within my first 5 minutes of not knowing a single thing to do, but won't do anything fun in space.
I'm not giving up though, I think there is something special here.. I just have to find it.
EDIT: And to clarify, I bought the game digitally and therefore had to wait for the unlock time, so I definitely have the day0 patch or whatever.
The planets (while impressive) are too big and empty to be interesting. Even for exploring, it's literally just 30 minutes of the same plants and every once in awhile some random animal that you can feed and then nothing else.
Hop to a new planet and do the same thing.
Or you can fly around the planet to cover more ground, look for interesting things from the sky, but in the beginning it's way too "expensive" to fly around, the take of thrusters are dead after like 4 take offs, then you have to run around and grind resources to be able to fly again.
I mean, the tech is super impressive, but even from an "Explorer" point of view, there's nothing to explore?
1.04 update just went live! Earlier than expected! Im wondering what it does lol.
The last time I played the game my whole PS4 froze up.
Probably a consequence from that but after starting the game after patching I got a corrupt data error lol but then it said it restored a backup so very little progress lost
I'll be honest I'm getting bored a bit and later than most other people. I think the game has potential. Reminds me of how things were and went with Destiny and how much more content there is after a few years. It needs quests and missions or bounties would be good like Elite.
I still want to reach the centre of the galaxy though but very shortly I'll be playing Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
ive not played the game but i have been gripped by the hype and then decided against purchase due to reviews/comments/gameplay vids as it looks pretty boring which is a shame as it looks pretty revolutionary - similarly to black and white back in the day which got old real fast

I wouldn't compare this to Destiny, that game had little content at the beginning but the gameplay was rock solid and alot of fun from day 1, that's why people (myself included) put up with the lack of content in the first place.
NMS neither has content nor proper gameplay or anything resembling fun, it's not fixable by patches and little added content, the game will die very soon.
They are so close to being the biggest liars in the whole game industry, and that is quite an achievement considering they have to compete with Ubishit
