No i5 though? Only Sky and Kaby Lake i7.

Do you by chance have some recent benchmarks of i5 vs i7 comparisons?

Still planning on buying a i7 next.
But over 100€ more for barely much more performance in some benchmarks is a bit hard to justify for me.

just look at pclab.pl and gamegpu.com benches for games. I wouldn't use the word barely when describing the i5 and i7 gap in demanding games. watch dogs 2 is a 20 fps difference, same for mafia 3. gears 4 is double the FPS. battlefield 1 also huge gains.

i'd say next to RAM speed not making a difference, the i5 and i7 being equal in games is one of the most common myths around these days when it comes to gaming.

yeah, there are gonna be a ton of games where core clock speed will still be the king, but for a well balanced rig, I would not recommend an i5 anymore.

There even is a very recent comparison of Kabylake i5 vs i7:
http://pclab.pl/art72389.html

Some pretty huge differences between them in for example Witcher 3 and WatchDoge 2.

Let's wait a bit if AMD will put something out. If not, some i7 it will be then.

yep, will be nice if AMD has a consistent i7 challenger. that would be the ideal scenario for the end consumer.

From a gamer's prospective the only benefit from 7700K would be much better overclocking ability AFTER deliding. Without it overclocking is just a waste of time as it was on Hasswells and Skylakes too.

Are there any articles out yet that compare Skylake / Kablylake overclocking? I rather often read about KL, that it has some problems with getting too warm?

Probably Intel putting shitty integrated heatspreaders again to earn some more cents per sold CPU and to cripple OC headroom at the same time.

The OC problems are the same. IHS is way too high thanks to too much glue betwween IHS and PCB. Very very few Skylakes will go 5GHz even after deliding and quite some Kabys will hit 5GHz. Though 5,1GHz can be very very rare.

It's not that 7700K is not faster but the actual difference depends a lot of what games (or engines) are you willing to play. The difference varies from game/engine to game/engine.

I'm still thinking should I sell my 4790K and get 7700K mostly for OC fun.

But I don't feel like getting new mobo, ram and ram too. At that point I would also need new PSU just fo the sake of it and case Laughing

yes, cause we are superior Razz

the price was only that high cause it was a very small amount of pieces which got produced (the application case just isnt that spreaded). those tools are only great if you plan to relid the ihs (which isnt needed at all imho) after replacing the thermal paste with liquid metal or if you want to delid many cpus. just for doing it once even those 30bucks are too much
