Correct. There is none, unless clocking, upon which you will have more headroom Wink

Me neither, but I guess sometimes you feel bad knowing you upgraded and didn't opt-in for the best, even though it's useless unless you do a lot of video compression/editing.

Then again, it's the same with consoles : you wanna get the best PC ever for 1000€, to play the same games as on a 350€ console Cool Face

@tonizito

Ewwww, the d-pad is bad enough on the 360 as it is, I can't even begin to fathom how bad it would be on an aftermarket controller! Vomit I've got the Afterglow PS3 version and it's bad, bad, bad.

Damn, you must be fucking huge then. Or suck at putting stuff together Cool Face

As for the derptroller, well, it cost me 1x witcher 2 and 1x system shock 2, and each of those cost me $5 so not a bad deal.
Also, previous owner didn't like the excessive deadzone but wasn't aware that you can easily counter that on the x360CE emolator Aww Yeah

so i was running an old gts 250 which i had replaced with an not so old gtx 470 for a half year or so.
last night while playing the 470 just died on me so i finally ordered a new one.
i know i know u guys probably buy gtx 980's with 1 millions gb ram but hey i'm so broke it's really something special for me.
so it's an gtx 970 strix from asus with 4 gb ram. hope it will last me a while... even the gts250 lasted ages for me so i guess i should be fine with it.

the rest of my pc screams bottleneck everywhere so after christmas i will get more ram and a ssd. even with my old board, cpu (i5 750) and psu i should be ready to go for the next years and maybe even gta 5. Everything Went Better Than Expected

didn't wanted to start a new topic for this.... but still wanted to let u know because i'm so happy right now. first real upgrade since 2011

that i5 won't bottleneck 970, overclock it a bit, at least 3.4ghz and it will be on pair with i3 2100 which is more than enough for current console ports, cough games, due to consoles have shit cpu's and gfx is their main advantage, that's how dev's code games now Poker Face

besides current 970-980 have only 4gb and strix only like 15% slower than 980

With DDR4 out this year, not sure if you want to upgrade right now.

Probably, next year, DDR4 will be the norm for all the new systems and there are already motherboards and CPU's out (X99 and the new Haswell 5k series). Pricing for those is now insane, but in a couple of months will see mainstream stuff for DDR4 and the pricing might be acceptable.

I'll be upgrading from DDR2 to DDR3 already, good enough for me. Laughing
As for lower prices, next year *WHEN*?

Probably fall/winter. But if it burns, yeah you can go on a DDR3 system. With the high-end DDR4 Haswell, i don't think that there will be a long wait for the mainstream CPU's/motherboards.

I'm testing GTA IV now but apparently the steam version does not support SMAA via SMAAinjector or via radeonpro Reaction

The first test with new fresh hardware should never be GTA IV, because it will inevitably crush your dreams xD. Trust me, I did it too back then! with truly disgusting results

i remember strugling to run it at stable 30-40 fps with some old quad+8800gt, now some i3+gtx460 1gb and it's pretty much flying Laughing as long as your shadows stay on high and no ultra mega night shadows enabled

nah this rig will demolish gta IV.

Toni, if you wanna feel really good about the upgrade fire up natural selection 2, planetside 2, arma 2 or 3, provided you played any of those previously.

natural selection 2 is the game where I noticed it the most going from core2quad to haswell.

went from 1 minute load screens, constant hard drive chirping, 20-25 fps frames as soon as the game got going, to 5 second loading screens and constant 50-60 fps.
