Cannot replicate JP, seen it as a kid in the theater, a Spielberg masterpiece.

Watched it last night. It wasn't anything to rave about but it was certainly better than a 2/10 movie by some distance.
I'd say about a 5 or 6 score would be a fair verdict on it.

It's not at all a JP clone. Then you can say that about any movie with dinos. Peter Jackson's king kong had more JP references than this.
I really digged the feathered and furred versions. And I like this type of adventure, set in a closed environment, like a town or a street, instead of the global disaster kinds.
The numbers don't decide, the system is a lie. The river running dry, the wings of butterflies.

The End of Oak Street 6/10. I actually liked this Jurassic park wannabe.
But what was the point of the disastrous ethical implications at the end of the movie with its dubious "happy end"?
Having lost entire family in the Jurassic, the last surviving member of the family Denise or one of her children at the cost of their lives should have undone this entire event thru some timey-wimey macguffin while simultaneously providing their past selves with some crucial information that would save their family from falling apart and ,perhaps, prevent similar events from happening.
But the script writers were too lazy to designate movie time for developing such plot device, and/or too stupid to realize moral consequences of the ending they have chosen.

Yeah, the macguffin sucked, I even would have preffered aliens. I didn't get the end at first. I thought she went back every time and got someone else out each time, but apparently she had plenty of time to call half the street.

Colony - 6.5/10
Clearly tried to be a new Train to Busan (in a Dawn of the Dead setting) but failed. Don't care about the characters, repetitive Z attacks, bringing in some fungus into the mix.
It's okay if you don't have anything better to watch and need a doze of Z's.

Novocaine 7,5/10. Enjoyed this much more than I thought going into it. They actually make good use of the premise of main guy not being able to feel any pain and go through with it. Also rather gory. I am not sensitive when it comes to gore, but this movie made me flinch a few times.
Also main guy looked like the OG Max Payne so much, not sure if this was an intentional design choice.

The Final Countdown (1980) 6/10
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080736/
This movie was mentioned in one of those YT lists of obscure time travel movies, and this one happened to be unwatched by me, so I gave it a try. Time travel stuff was of tertiary significance in this movie, of secondary importance were supposed to be relations between main characters and the unfolding plot, but the movie failed in those two miserably.
First and foremost it was a nice ad of US NAVY, specifically aircraft carriers. I saw some familiar things in it from my military service in air force.

The Mosquito Coast (1986) 7.5/10
Long time since I've seen it. It's almost like Apocalypse, Now! but the family version
Probably Harrison Ford's best acting performance. But the rest of the cast (River Phoenix & Helen Mirren) is great too.
It Ends 6.5/10
Pretty good. But although it's pretty clear that the movie is an allegory (I'd say to life), the open ending is still a bit disappointing.
Spoiler: |
Nothing is explained, the road eventually ends and the character turns back.

Coyote vs Acme 6.5/10
Nice to see a live action/cartoon movie, but it's no Roger Rabbit. The cartoons do interact with some real items, but most are animated too, which is cheating in my book
The CG version of the classic characters didn't do it for me either. They actually include some segments of the original handdrawn cartoons, and that made it even worse
Strange ending too.
The Terror 8/10
Season 1 only, apparently the rest is trash It's a stand-alone season, since it's an anthology show. Based on the semi-historical horror novel, about the lost expedition of the Terror and Erebus to the arctics to discover the Northwest passage. It didn't need the supernatural element (which turns out to be more of a sideplot anyway), the setting is fascinating as it is. Nice ensemble cast too.
