It's cool. I even dug out my nfohump password to post it . Started the game, talked to Paul, than entered Liberty Island, caught the attention of one of the guards (they now see you farther away and hear your shots!) -> 3 guys coming at me, shooting and throwing pepper grenades! (ai avoids the gas clouds btw, don't remember if the did in the original)...Paul took care of them though .
And hearing "stop screwing around" from Paul when I shot the bottle near him to see new GMDX item animations - priceless!
Mod or not, but Deus Ex is still so much fun. I hardly play any games today, I tried Deus EX:HR and got bored, same with Dishonored etc. - they are all beautiful but hardly interactive.
Well said Accel
I could only play through the first level, but the impressions are indeed extremely positive. So many little touches/improvements, there's more physics involved, hugely improved AI (and the barking dogs, they'll be damned ), plus all the semi-hidden functions that I still have to study.
Everything is much more coherent now. In the vanilla game one could do his dirty Rambo work with barely any repercussions, but here you need to be extra careful, a wrong move and all enemies will want a piece of dat cybernetic ass. They're not psychic though, it's just a more reactive and dynamic implementation, they can be fooled by simply "leaving the scene", which is pretty realistic.
edit:
In case the modded game throws some silly errors at launch (it happened in my case), a solution is to download Kentie's launcher ( http://kentie.net/article/dxguide/ ), replace the original .exe and start everything from there, putting the GDMX in first position when it comes to the priority. (As far as I can see the mod includes New Vision and the HDTP as well)
Guise. I'm finished with System shock 2 and want to play this old gem. What mods are good? Kind of lost after googling. This GMDX mod seems to alter a bit, and i'm not sure it's good for a first playthough.

I'm jealous of all your first playthroughs, I wish I could neuralyze everything and experience these masterpieces again
Joking aside, typically I would say to go for the vanilla, but the GMDX is such a refined experience (and a massive improvement over the original in the AI and gameplay/balance departments) that I would actually recommend it even for a first timer. It's practically the ultimate Deus Ex in my opinion. It also comes with the high resolution texture pack (New Vision), which doesn't alter the style of the levels, only improves the definition and amount of details.

I just completed the game with GMDX - fourth time - and I must say that I generally didn't really find that it changed anything crucial. Well, I noticed that the warehouse district was changed quite a bit - when you return there, it's suddenly the old version again which seems like a big oversight (the old version has a small building with a computer at the top, the new version is more open and has no such building). Other than that, most of it is just streamlining.
Man after playing system shock this game is making me a bit paranoid of sorts when choosing ways to finish a mission. I want to do this way, but then i think that other paths might have goodies and other stuff which i'll miss if i take another path to the goal. I'm fucked up this way :S
This was one of the best downports from PC back in the day in terms of how much of the experience survived the transition.
Though the video didn't show the updated character models of the PS2 port and didn't mention it's playable with mouse and keyboard, something rare for a console game.
edit Also you can save anywhere, just like on PC.

Main aspect for this release seems to improve the art.
Wow, big differences! I like! Much better than just "HD Texturezzzzz".

Looking nice. Some of the redesigns are a bit 'off' in my opinion (not all the emptiness must necessarily be covered, there's peculiar charm even in a bare corridor), but overall it's definitely an improvement. The guy really is tireless, hats off to him for taking care of the Deus in such an amazing way^^
Damn it, another 60 sleep deprived hours will be wasted.
Playing Revision now, actually not that bad aestheticlly (some levels make more sense now, Unatco for example is much better), but the mechanics suck balls (no matter if just Revision or Biomod/Shifter changes). After playing GMDX 8.0 I have to say it really is the ultimate Deus Ex experience.

Hope they fix some of the bugs. Sucks to get to the part where you meet Paul after sending the warning messages, only to find that he's invisible in his apartment, with no way of interacting with him.
