Android 4.3's Wi-Fi Is Always On And Always Scanning, Unless You Find The Special Checkbox
Quote: | Google wants you to leave your Wi-Fi on, or at least partially on, all the time. Now I know you might immediately scream "MY BATTERY LIFES!!11" but this will probably save battery. Google wants you to leave Wi-Fi on so that apps can get your location, but consider that the other option for location is firing up the GPS chip, which is a battery's worst enemy.
The important thing to keep in mind is this if you hate this, you can turn it off. The option is just buried under an "advanced" menu. Turning off "Scanning always available" will make "off" for Wi-Fi really be "off." |

http://www.sammobile.com/2013/07/30/samsung-boosts-exynos-galaxy-s4s-gpu-clock-speed-to-manipulate-benchmark-scores/#.UffcN89_3L4.twitter
Quote: | Well, here’s some surprising news. The folks over at AnandTech have discovered that the octa-core Exynos variant of the Galaxy S4 has a trick up its sleeves that lets it score higher in benchmarks – Samsung has put in a system that boosts the clock speed of the phone’s GPU whenever a benchmark app like AnTuTu, Quadrant and GLBenchmark is fired up.
The PowerVR SGX 544MP3 inside the Exynos chipset on the S4 usually runs at 480MHz, but upon starting those aforementioned apps, the clock speed gets bumped up to 533MHz and stays there unless you close the app. The CPU is also fixed at its maximum clock frequency (and in case of the Snapdragon variant, all cores are made active).
This gives it an artificial boost, up to 10% or more in some cases, that you won’t ever find coming into effect in real-life usage such as playing games or doing any other graphics-heavy stuff on the phone. Which, ultimately, make these benchmarks just something for show off without too much real-world value, though that’s true of benchmarks in general.
So, I guess there’s no point in boasting about your Galaxy S4′s benchmark scores in front of your friends any more. Let’s hope Samsung doesn’t use these tricks in future devices, as it seems a cheap way to make your device stand out among the competition in benchmark comparisons.
Read all the details about the findings at the source link. |

Typical Samsung, having to resort to low pathetic moves

or just flash one of many custom kernels that allow GPU overclocking and run everything at 600Mhz

That's just sad if that is really the case. If it wasn't cheap plastic, it wouldn't had happened

What does your post have to do with Samsung or that accident?!
The Samsung phone (supposedly) catch'd fire, while the iphone had something to do with electrocuting (and supposedly used a 3rd party charger).
Those are 2 whole different things.
My point still stands tho, if they used proper material, like metal or w/e the others use, then the risk of it catching on fire would be virtually nil compared to plastic.
But that doesn't take away that i do think all those stories are bs and people looking to make a quick buck.

And catching fire and exploding is the same?!
Sorry but not in my eyes.
But the story says she was electrocuted, nothing exploded.

I was never trying to get into an argument with you.
Maybe that's what you want to get out of it (as usual), but not me

Somehow now I got my hands on this beast. It was included in my father's two year contract, but since he hates technology and is fine with his trusty classic brick from the pre-smartphone era, he handed it to me without problems.
Not that I needed it or anything, but since it was there I went ahead and started using it. I'm a complete noobcake when it comes to phones, but I wanted to know, is the "stock" software okay for someone that will probably only use it for calling/texting/watching some TV series before going to bed or is it possible to improve it a lot without triggering some Jap self-destruction mechanism?

what are you on about? pretty much all serious publications praised S4's screen for color accuracy and what tremendous improvement it is over S3 screen.
s3 screen was over saturated indeed.
s4 screen is complete opposite, it's extremely color accurate AND amoled so you get amazing blacks, no bleeding etc etc.
you are absolutely wrong about s4 screen, are you sure this is not one of your moments where you mix stuff up entirely and embarrass yourself? |
to each his own, u prefer amoshled and ps4 i prefer ips and pc
those OGS IPS displays are amazing on them china smartphones, sharp, crisp, natural and super bright, viewing angles, there is nothing like it, at least i haven't seen yet
and yeah i almost threw up after trying s4 because of colour overload, yaaaack

AdobeRGB is good for image work. It requires correct color profiles to calibrate the screen; it does not come calibrated by default. It actually comes loaded with sRGB color profile.
AdobeRGB is 35% larger than sRGB. Seems like it is the exact model tested by DisplayMate.
The red square on Apple is large brightness loss when viewing at an extreme angle. Not sure about you, but phones are meant to be looked at straight and not at an extreme angle. I rather have correct colors when looked at correct angles rather than shit calibrated, non RGB matrix garbage. To each their own.

yea, being used to 1080p displays now i just cant look at an iphone screen from close distance (which is my default viewing distance for mobile devices), be it a 4, 5 or 5s; it just doesnt look nearly as clean.
i never thought that i would ever care about 1080p on a 5" display, but now i do.

You can have much superior 1080p displays on HTC and LG devices. That's not an excuse buying this cheap garbage.

@ixi: You don't need to swap the standard rom. It's quite good and comes with some stuff you'd miss on cyanogen or any other naked android rom. I'd say stick with it, especially if you want to be sure that you do not break the voice quality and stuff like that.
F.e. with Cyanogen mod the people I called with handsfree mode were never happy about the voice quality, with stock rom nobody ever complained.
Of course, samsung puts some bloatware on the phone but I guess it's ok as long as you just don't use it
We are looking for a new phone for my wife and actively look for good prices on the LG G2. Any thoughts on this guys?
