Not really worthy of a spoiler, but ending spoiler nonetheless.
Spoiler:
Wow, the story build up and became completely awesome. Then came the ending. That's how you make a shitty ending for a game folks! It's not a bad ending, just deeply unsatisfying one.

Spoiler:
they were planning a sequel, hence the open ending. hopefully there will be a new one on the nx
Hopefully! For all it's faults and uneeded game elements, it was a pretty damn good game. Barely ever touched gem enchantement stuff, and breezed through the game just fine
you should do the affinity missions, they flesh out the story alot more and give alot of insight into the other races etc.
i found the affinity and sidequests surrounding the main story more interesting than the main story itself, save for the last few hours when things start moving along.
I seriously have to take a break now But i will get too it. It's just a fucking grind ahead of me. Getting 11 or 12 characters to max affinity and leveling and gearing them in addition. Will take a shitload of time. Tried support mission alone with noob team members, but it just went too slow, so i can only take 2 at a time :/

you just need the phoenix weapon on your mech, and spam that to kill all the enemies, should go fairly quick without the other 3 characters having to do anything.
i m talking about one of the last support missions, which is a small canyon area with a few groups of prone.
you basically just have to stand in the middle and spam the weapon till theyre all dead.
I found an interstellar version of that weapon! But it only does like 75% of their hp, and it's a full 60 seconds cd, which leaves me single targeting and hoping for the proc that resets CD. It's just way too slow.
Edit: Scratch that. Forgot the interstellar version have an 48 second CD.
XCX took quite some hours to finally pick up. I'm currently chapter 5 where i lost my arm.
There are some things are annoy the shit out of me though (was not nearly as bad with the previous game):
- For example you often have to travel to the other part of the fucking world, through high level monsters, just to farm some collectibles. And then you get a shit reward of like 8k credits.
Seriously, wat fucking design is it, to put like lvl 50-80 enemies in front of your target lvl 20 ones?
- And often i didn't even had a clue where i would find those items. Therefore i was forced to use the Wiki. Which often resulted in my previous complain.
- And grinding affinity for characters, so you can proceed with the mainquest.
- Character animations in cutscenes are shit. I know they are somekind of robots, but that doesn't meant they need to move like those
- AI of your companions in combat is often fucking shit.

Yea all Xeno games have their faults, but I love them all equally. Currently around 20 hrs into XC2 in Switch and it's anime as fuck but damn if it isn't alot of fun and addictive. The soundtrack is probably the best I've heard in last decade of gaming.
And in regards to XCX, the affinity quests are basically main story quests so they should be mandatory for the story as a whole, otherwise many things won't make sense. I found it weird how they made them optional and having you grind affinity for them, but atleast you can do them up to the last chapter of the game, they don't get locked out.
Aye, XCX gets alot of hate for it's "different" soundtrack, especially some of the hiphop parts, like the New LA theme , but overall it is a very unique and memorable soundtrack, I remember spending alot of time with quests in the Ma-non ship just so I could groove to that tune.
And it's still my favourite open world from a design standpoint, it feels like 3 worlds at once, depending whether you explore on foot, in a skell on the ground or flying, there is no other open world even close to as vertical as this one.
If they re-release the game on the Switch with some QoL improvements, I'll spend another 200+ hours on it.
Yea exploration is great, and often a must for the nodes.
Though i'm currently in chapter 8, and sadly the main story still isn't really catching me - compared to XC1, which got me pretty much in the first 2-3h.

XC1 and 2 are very story-focused games, XCX is different in that regard, it doesn't have alot of meat in the main quest but it has some very nice sidequests that help alot towards world building and the overall story as a whole. There are long questlines with different alien races and their own story that makes the game feel like an episodic TV show.
Anyway, the ending is great and definitely improves the story somewhat, without spoiling anything.
Just ordered XC2, hope i get it tomorrow, but maybe i should play XCX first .. XC1 was great. i usually don't care too much about jRPG's but i liked the characters here and the world was really cool to.
I'll have to say XC1 overall since it was a revolutionary JRPG when it came out, but I am not even close to finishing XC2 yet.
XC2 basically takes XC1 and does alot of QoL improvements, the world is equally beautiful (and equally split up into zones) and the soundtrack may even be better. Storywise its a thing of preference, both games have interesting concepts and plenty of twists, and so far XC2 is still very engaging. Combat is definitely better and offers more depth than in XC1, no contest, and while there is no more equipment in the classic sense (except for 2 accessory items) you can equip up to 3 so-called "blades", which are basically support characters bound to you, who determine your stats, battle abilities and class. It's a system that offers alot of freedom, but I don't want to go further into it so I don't spoil some of the finer mechanics.
The characters, while being the best designed and most expressive so far from a technical standpoint, are hit and miss. They can be deep and interesting but they can also be anime as fuck at times.
XCX is the most open one of the 3 games and the one with least main story content. Not saying the story is bad, it does get quite interesting, but there is too little of it.
The game has better exploration than the other two, because it has a truly connected, extremely well-designed and multi-layered open world without any loading screens. Overall it is more focused on the sidequests, which deal with colonizing an alien planet and meeting all kinds of different alien races etc. In a way it reminded me of the more episodic parts of Stargate SG1. Combat is kinda like XC1 but with the addition of mech combat, the soundtrack ranges from great to plain wtf. Tone-wise I would say it's the most mature one of the 3 games and serves as an indirect connection between the old Xenogears and Xenosaga franchises, but sadly there are only very few interesting characters.
Too bad xcx was shin in every other regard. Also anime as fuck, and the fact that the protagonist isnt really there and regarded properly. Its the worst kind of protagonist with game combination ive ever seen.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition looks much better than the original game, but that’s not what makes it the “definitive edition.” It’s a combination of the graphical upgrade and countless little quality-of-life improvements that breath new life into this modern classic.
The QoL improvements alone make me have to replay this, even if the resolution is a mess in handheld mode, its still one of the best JRPGs of all time.
Played it a bit yesterday, so far the docked resolution is fine for Switch, undocked resolution also isn't bad given my expectations, definitely alot better than in XB2. I only played in the first area though, will probably have to wait till I reach Bionis' Leg for a proper comparison.
It's been almost 10 years since the last run, and the memory isn't fresh anymore, so I am looking forward to the exploration aspect again. Oh and expert mode actually makes the game easier, since it's very abusable
