Only the first 4 teams out of 10 (it's a single group qualifier) have a spot guaranteed. The 5th place has to play an inter-confed playoff against an asian team.

The level is pretty high in CONMEBOL when comparing to the majority of UEFA which has lots of "filler" teams. My national team was the only filler team in the south american zone up until only 15 years ago, but not anymore. By now we've been able to beat any team from the zone (except Argentina and Brazil, for now

) on their home turf. Anyway, the south american qualifier is arguably the most disputed on the planet Wink

Yeah, Lahm, Klose, Podoslki, probably Schweinsteiger as well. They still have a fine generation of young players (and winners) in Müller, Reus, Neuer, Özil, Kroos, Götze, Kedhira, Boateng, Hummels. If they keep up the good work they could become the first country to successfully defend their world championship in 56 years (Brazil in 1962).
