Stumbled upon Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB GDDR5 with 512-bit at the price range of the Gigabyte GTX770 OC 4GB GDDR5.
Is it worth buying ? http://en.ksp.co.il/?uin=20777&store=KSP03

Yeah, technically the 290 is a better card, but the reference ones are hot and loud, which is something you should keep in mind.

Just be aware of the fact that it'll be (too) loud and hot. That's why we've all recommended the Tri-X.

Highlighted the important bit
770, not 780. And versus a 770 where the 4 GiB is wasted on top of the fact that it's a lot slower than the 780 and 290...

f nvidia. All I can say. not that I am amd fanboy now (maybe a little bit but only their gpu's) but nvidia sucks lately. Everything they make is too hot, too expensive and too "exclusive"

Only their highest end GPUs are usually the most expensive, otherwise price is set by the competition anyway. As for heat.. their recent higher end desktop GPUs have been one of the most power efficient and coolest on the market, actually. AMD have lost that game (or perhaps chose to lose it to keep the sizes smaller?) for these last 2 generations, if I am not mistaken. At least on the higher end, again - not that familiar with the performance on the lower end.
Exclusivity was always Nvidia's thing, can't argue with that, but AMD has Mantle and TrueAudio now too, so it can work both ways...

What exactly is your point? Same could be said about Nvidia's "exclusive" offers...

dont mind me. sorry for trashing the topic. I am just saying stuff.
But srsly. Go for either 780/770 r280/r290.
I guess whats cheaper, better deal. You will be happy with either

I saw that. This I don't understand:

Sorry mate, they are not, they are priced similarly here, I don't get "exclusive" and they are colder than their reference AMD counterparts. Sorry mate, there are absolutely no reasons one would be recommended above the other except personal preference.

Much more expensive here for the same performance. And by exclusive I mean their stupid physx and gsync.

I see. Sad about the prices, I guess bitcoin mining hasn't really picked up here. Nonetheless, AMD has their own exclusive shit, Mantle, TrueAudio and I am 50% sure FreeSync needs an AMD GPU. CBA to look for that info, but alas, both have their ups and downs, and, as I said, choice is left to the consumer, now more than ever that AMD finally released a GPU to rival NVIDIA's flagships. From my point of view, the only thing that AMD has is that they power the newly released gen of consoles. However, people are forgetting NVIDIA has their own, very capable mobile chipsets and tegra phones are more expensive than a console. Won't sell as much in the long run, but you get my drift.

You are might be 50% sure, you're also 100% wrong
FreeSync is only a codename for a proof of concept using anything but AMD technologies. It is a software thing. Only hardware requirement on the GPU side is eDP as of yet. It's not a product (yet).

Decided to put some extra money and buy the Sapphire Radeon R9 290 TRI-X OC !
Any real difference between this one and the 290X tri-X ? there is difference of 168$ between them.

No, the 290X is to the 290 what a 480/580/680/5870/6970/7970 is to a 470/570/670/5850/6950/7950
The X has an extra block of shaders and runs at different clocks, but performance wise that barely adds up to 10%; in fact, the regular 290 is almost identical performance wise so definitely stick with the one you picked
ClaudeFTW wrote: | I see, thanks, I cba last night to look for info. |
Haha
Not really as if most people "get" what AMD did with "FreeSync" anyway. Most do believe it's already a product, limited to AMD, and so on. And at the moment it's just a PoC using "free" technologies (other than the software obviously) :/
