Almost 20 euros here, Zalman is VERY cheap here, in comparison to other manufacturers. I know it's not that much but I do not have a steady income and I must pay other shit first. For the budget I allowed myself, I can get the cooler I want and something really close to the case I wanted, which was obviously a decent Corsair, and the closest thing being the Z11, from a feature standpoint, I believe it's a bit too flashy.

Teh necro!
Need one, good/great, that won't break the bank and that will fit inside a mid-tower case.

Hyper 212 evo is what id recommend. Both my son and daughter have them in their cases and they work great.

Some people love them, some hate them no idea why, its par with others. Only when you get into nit picking about a degree here or there, or a decibel here or there for noise is it different for better or worse.
Only $30. Its a bit tall, but they both have mid towers and they fit fine. Sons on a i5 3570k overclocked and it keeps it around 30ish idle, 50ish under load.

Only reason I dont have one is Im still using my zalman 9700(I think it is or 9900) and it works for me.

Thermalright Macho HR-02. Cool Face

If it fits your case, its a good cooler, it easily keeps my 3570K @ 4.5Ghz in check, but its more expensive than the Hyper 212.

the cool thing about the macho is, that you can even drop the fan and keep it in passive mode, and it will still be pretty effective Very Happy

@Toni: I can also vouch for the 212 when it comes to cheap options, it's ghetto as hell but works fine. I didn't even have to revert the overclock this summer with 35°C in my room, the bastard just kept on spinning and maintain the bro cpu fresh no fucks given mode. xD

I can second ixi (or 3rd since he's referencing me?), I was skeptical because of the price for its size. But it does really well I think for its $30 price tag.

I was skeptical because the reviews on it was either great or horrible.
But digging into it most the 'bad' reviews was people talking about coolers of the same size, not price. Pointing out "X cooler is slightly quieter and 3-4 degrees cooler under 100% load" but it was a cooler 2x the price or more, of course it should perform better.

If my zalman dies, Im getting one for my own PC myself. My sons has been running 24/7 for about 2 years now and 0 problems. Even with his lack of cleaning his case at ALL until I go do it, it still chugs along keeping it cool.

For the 212, what you get for that price is just great. Probably will go for one when I need to replace my cooler. It's the right price point for how much I care about my cooling setup without OC

Haha yup, close enough (sadly). 'Perks' of living in an old house in the countryside with no AC and with Tuscany facing its hottest July-August since the last century. We even had three typhoons in one week, definitely going full-tropical...except for the lack of half naked salsa dancers. Crying or Very sad Very Happy

Why not go for one of the closed water cooling kits using some good static pressure fans for the radiator instead of a big chunky and noisy air-cooler?

Because he wants something cheap. 30€ sounds pretty cheap.
And if the noise of a low RPM fan is problematic I'd say: get a new/better case. Razz

The two things weren't connected, but I did a shit job on conveying my message (happens a lot so... )

I was trying to ridicule the idea that the low RPM fan would be so problematic that one would start to entertain the thought of a closed water cooling system when you're on a budget. Most cases would block the sound out.

Better if I don't do that at 5.20 in the morning... or maybe even better: not at all. Smile

Fixed the image links.
It was actually the cheapest RAM at the time, even cheaper than some with the same speed but with low profile coolers, go figure

a friend bought one of those corsairs h110. it's loud as fuck. i will never ever buy something like this just to get 10° less on my cpu. also it almost cost double as much as a normal cooler/fan.

is there even ram without spreaders anymore to buy out there? haven't seen them without in a long time or you just buy no name ram?

sure, enough options (and most of the time cheaper) from every brand, and even enough with just a little plate glued on the sides-> no waste of space. in his case its not dramatic, but with many board+cpu cooler combos you get real problems with such big heatspreaders . and even the "no names" arent no names, comes from the same factory, just with no branding on it
