just saw you got a android device that only can do 3h ouch... and has Adreno 305 GPU
at tip for you, when looking for games just look for the name on Google and add your GPU name to have a compatible version
i have a cheap korean 4core 7'' tablet with powervr quad-core [mp4... the same gpu Sony vita has] that can run anything and lasts 9/10h off wifi and 5 on wifi

youre missing the point, obviously the graphics are better from a technical standpoint, ie. resolution basically, but the art style is definitely worse and lost its character.
that said, i will still play it - AS LONG AS THEY LEFT THE MUSIC ALONE!

I agree the art style might be more debetable, but if it was 3D DS style remeake it will looks perfect?
the art on 3D version of FF4 is not perfect compare to the 2D PSP version(which as far as I know as improvement on it's own) I guess no matter what version, people will find flews,ho well, everyone can think whatever they want.

Game looks fine to me. Some people here are too fixated on pixel hunting, world doesn't revolve around those who finished the game. Most people buying iOS/Android version have never played the original. There are tons of emus for Android and probably for iOS too, so it's not like there is a problem to play the original on your mobile device.

got it and played it for an hour.
backgrounds and gfx in general are great, but yea the character sprites are definitely off, though i have to admit with time i m getting used to them. after the initial shock of them not looking much like the original ones wears off, the game draws you in like always, with the music that has luckily been left intact (phew) and pretty much the optimal possible touch screen controls for an ff game.
i really like the fact that you can see the commands of all your characters on-screen (once the atb gauge is full obviously), that way you dont need to keep switching through them but can simply input the desired command straight away.
so to sum it up, it plays well for a touch screen game, technically it looks great and sounds great.
the character sprites are shit and so are the 3d town models, the online drm and lack of cloud saves.
the game doesnt strike me as dumbed down or made significantly easier within the first hour or play, it has been a while since i played the snes original last time, but it is still easy to die quickly if enemies gang up on your character in a round and you dont heal fast enough.
another thing i noticed, when you die and restart from your save point, you keep the experience points and gil you accumulated up to your death (kinda like in suikoden 2 and some breath of fire games).
not a bad addition for newcomers, it wont make the game easier per se, just cut down on some grind time.

Six days since Android release, where the fuck is the iOS one, SE? FFS, grrr. Oh and a critical crash bug was discovered on the Android version, during the Kefka/Leo scene in Thamasa, the game crashes. SE said a patch is coming.

Level 10 by the Opera House isn't bad, FFVI isn't really a game that requires min-maxing so the handful of Esper level up bonuses you could get from early game aren't all that important (IMO) and I'd give the droid version a quick go on my Ion but egh, it requires root/modded Play store and I'm grumpy about the online requirement.
-edit-
So I finally stopped umm'ing and ahh'ing and got the modded Play Store installed. Game works fine now but the performance sucks ass on my Xperia Ion, averaging 34-41fps outside of menus and dialogues, 24-30 in menus and dialogues. The character/NPC sprites are terrible and look like they're superimposed over the top of the background with no shadowing either, they really are as dreadful as the earlier previews showed. Backgrounds and monster battlers look great though.
The performance is just another reason why I don't game on Android, it really is a lousy experience compared to iOS. Soul Calibur runs 60 on my iPad 2 yet crawls along barely at 30 on both my Ion and my brothers HTC One X, same with Sonic Racing; runs great on my Pad but terrible on both Android devices. That's pretty much my experience with Android in a nutshell, really powerful hardware with games running like crap in comparison to iOS versions.

I have no performance problems on my Cyanogenmod s4, even the newer 3d games run at 60 fps mostly.
Anyway, update is out, fixing the freeze issue in the leo kefka battle and also sabins blitz inputs along with some spelling errors. Perhaps this was the reason why its not out on ios yet, let the android people test it for bugs first.

v1.0.1
The following bugs have been addressed:
- The game no longer crashes during the cutscene showing the fight between Kefka and General Leo.
- The icon for Sabin's Blitz ability now displays correctly.
- A misspelling of the term "Esper" has been corrected.
- Various other minor bugs.
Why do I even bother trying to play anything on a touch screen. The dynamic joystick is so damn sensitive but lacks precision that I move around like an idiot aiming and missing doors and shit all the time.
-----------
there is a no-root release but 1.0.0 so far.

Archer, you could always pair a PS3 controller and use a mapper app of some sort. I do that on my iPad for a lot of games - although the mapper I used doesn't work on iOS7 at the moment, BluTrol.
