In basic training they basically frighten you to death to carry your gun everywhere you go, including taking a shit and showering.
Combat instructors are far more likely to be carrying the shortened M16(Or M4). And even if they got the plain M16, it would look far more customized(משופצר) than that.

The pic is obviously old (pre 2004/5), that's why they're carrying those guns.

Terribly sorry there, SilverBlue, but I only figured out they're called M4 last year(Through extensive wiki'ing). We nearly call all those type of rifles M16 in Israel, whether it's short(קצר), shortened(מקוצרר) or sawed-off(מנוסר).

That's because they're not M4's...
M4 lacks the bridge and is heavier due to the thick barrell.
Those are compact M16's that date back to Vietnam
