Not sure if I am going to continue to watch it. He was one of my favourite characters and replacement for him is pretty shitty to be honest.

Don't worry, there are future episodes involving that character, some of which even feature his name in the title. This was probably just some cheap stunt to improve the flagging ratings.

I wonder why they did this, perhaps a request from fox? I seem to remember they tried the same in Simpsons, which ended up with simpsons writers making some joke "screw you" episode about it.

It's not about being offended it's about being desensitized to it. While rape can be funny when a comedian acknowledges it's a joke... It's not funny when it's used to cause a shock moment while masquerading itself as a joke. You have teens making fun of rape jokes even more so now than years ago. Rape is now as funny as nambla.
But hey thinking it's because people get offended and it's lol is good then well done you.

By christ that episode was bad. They've taken the piss so often, they can't do genuine emotion. The whole thing felt like a parody.
