That's how I've heard DEP and the others classified..."Mathmatical Metal." It's mainly because they all use fucked up time signatures in their music, not just the normal 4/4 signature.

Just rock for the most part.
I am a huge Matthew Good fan for no real reason other than I enjoy his music. Other than him, Broken Social Scene which is really undescribable is good, Radiohead I enjoy, Modest Mouse (moon and antartica) and.... geez, i dont know, im pretty selective. There is one group outside the rock/punk/alternative genre i love and thats beastie boys. Those guys are fucking awesome.

mostly metal of all sorts especially doom and trash/trashinfluenced bands nomatter genre but i also like _really_ gay music like almost all popular music from the eighties...all the really commercial eighties music were killers from alphaville to bryan adams....and ofcourse erasure feckin owns....i even think that erasure is officially in the "gaypop" genre.
my favourite band atm however is grand magus i think.

Aw, come on. There's really nothing wrong with hip-hop. There are some really talented rappers (Eric B./Rakim) out there. I enjoy listening to Three Six Mafia and Lil' Jon when I'm high, too. There's really nothing like the slow, plodding basslines on a really good, room-shaking system when you're stoned. Sends chills up my spine.
But then again, I listen to everything you can throw at me. I like some of the most obscure hardcore and death metal/black metal bands that exist, and I'm a sucker for technical musicianship...usually, I determine my respect for a band based on how much talent it takes to make their music, not if they can write a simple, catchy song. People these days usually depend on the latter, it's pretty sad actually.

like Death(R.I.P. Chuck), Joe Satriani, Steve Vai (for the love of god yeaaah), Liquid Tension Experiment, Dream Theater, Emperor (e.g. with strength i burn), Opeth (all), Arcuturus (e.g. icebound streams and vaporous grey- one of the best tracks i´ve ever heard; i have to hear it one time a day at least, it´s like a drug for me....listen to the bass, yeaaahh mosh- ok, ad astra´s also very good ), the old megadeth (from peace sells to Rust in peace e.g.: set the world afire *2nd solo mustaine easy but brilliant), Nevermore and Sanctuary (e.g. Lost and White Rabbit, yeaaaah- 1rst solo played by mustaine)
Dark suns (e.g. swanlike- drives me totally crazy/ makes me feel like injected metal runs through my veins, hypnotic), legendary Kreator (e.g. people of the lie) ,depressive age (fucking greath band e.g.: "friend within"), Psychotic Waltz (social grace- simply insane..), Novembre, Sadist, Testament, Cynic, Pestilence, Vicious Rumors, Dimmu Borgir, Samael, Dr. Butcher and Savatage, Slayer of course, Tiamat, Helloween, Blind guardian....enough
´so many good bands....
but i also like classic music very much (Bach -the first metaller as i like to call him Mozart, Brahms , Beethoven and Chopin)
and not to forget good slow Jazz and rock-Blues like gary moore
and not to forget the great soundtrack of Quake II (NIN)
Nun, so soll es denn sein!
Reiche mir Schwert und Wein,
reiche mir Panzer und Gebein!
Zerschmettern will ich mit Hass!
Ich, das schwarze Nass!!!
