I hope it will stay as a sticky (wait until dx10 with vista on the main PC). I have the Bill Gates release installed on my 2.8 ghz, but it was just to try it out. So its way past the 3 days registration thing. I can still log in but what does really happen? I notice some .DDLs doesnt work.. but what else? No i don't have the PC connected to the internet.

Thanks for a great faq!

I used this crack: *********** after doing the date thing. I didn't find an install.exe in the file though so I used the "Vista RTM Crack.exe" in the "Crack" dir. Is this the correct file to use? It seems to work, however I have had a BSOD that involved the timerstop.sys file already, so maybe I have done something wrong?

Please help, I would like to not have anymore BSODs! Smile

Use a tool like easybcd to edit the vista boot manager.

cf. http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1

wow thanks! very much!, this program is so easy to use and done exactly what i wanted Smile
all i had to do is press the add entry button and configure some simple settings.
whoever made this program is great, this should come installed with vista...

Yes, but what crack is that? The WPA-forum has several? Sorry if I'm being stupid.

By the way, how do I remove the crack that I have applied?

EDIT: I found the crack I think. Now how to remove the old one? Do I have to reinstall? Sad

V2a, from the thread "Vista experimental crack"...

To remove the old, run the EXE that came with the old one, and click "Uninstall driver". If it lacks that option, well, Laughing good luck, should've read the FAQ first.

@ Inatan25: I wander, what do you think about this one?

** UPDATED and REPACKED so that only 1 reboot is required! Makes is faster and yet easier again!
** Dont use this crack if you've already tried another, or rearmed 3 times!

For people who wish to know, this crack stops the timer to leave your vista install at 30 days
remaining forver, and works with windows update. You might wish to opt out of any validation
updates though Wink

This crack uses the same idea as ISHY's, and is available thanks to his timerstop.sys,
this just makes it a lot easier since it does everything for you! Here are the simple
steps below:

1. Extract the .rar file.
2. Right click on vistacrack.exe and select properties.
3. Goto Compatibility tab and check "Run this program as an administrator"
4. Close properties tab and run the crack file, hit crack as shown.
5. Computer will start the crack, and reboot.
6. When vista loads, it will show a warning on the systray, right click on it, and allow
the program to be started, and then hit allow when the warning pops up again.
7. The crack will then open up and finish the process. Hit finish to close the program.
8. Crack is now complete!!

To double check to make sure it worked, reboot your computer and goto:

1. Start > Run > slmgr.vbs -dlv
2. Wait a sec for the box to pop up
3. Look at the bottom line, if it says the time remaining is 43200 your set!

Thanks again to ISHY for his work who made this possible!

Very Happy

EDIT: don't worry, I won't PM u. We are just talking about that interesting OS. Razz

Yeah, now I see. I'm almost 100% certain it uses an older version of the AntiWPA crack. Use with caution.

Noob question. If I use partitionmagic to make a new partition on my hard drive, then install Vista on it. And then transfer the files from the other partition over, then delete the old partition and merge it into the new one. Would that be as good as a clean install of just formatting the entire HD and installing?

Not really, because a true format makes the OS to write the files at the first sectors of the HDD, whereas installing on a second partition will make it install on the first sectors of that partition, which means at a large offset. For performance reasons, it is always better to install at the first sectors.

@ LeoNatan

Maybe update the faq with a mention about the automated install crack from antiwpa, works fine, in one click without having to play with dates.

Shouldnt this thread be replaced with the BIOS hack now as AntiWPA has been sideswiped by M$ several times now?

See HERE
and HERE

This has been working for months now and all updates can be applied etc.. No need to reactivate when you repalce hardware etc etc etc.

Well I've installed it.. (running now..).. Not massively convinced yet. It takes far longer to boot (although once on the "welcome" screen it loads from there uber quick..).. Having slight issues with my video overlay modes, but thats just VLC.. I think I should do a total re-installation rather than dual booting.. Might help me adjust as right now I'm running things from my other drive without installing it :\..

Edit..

OMG PER APPLICATION VOLUME CONTROL! VISTA HERE I COME Razz!

What can I use to format my old XP partition? This is driving me nuts! My DVD drive just died, and the disc I burnt doesnt seem to want to boot either.. so I cant get to bootable installation menus. GAH! This is so fucking annoying..

I just want to format my old XP drive and install vista on it.. then I want to format my OTHER vista install and merge the partitions!

Don't you have some old ms-dos floppy disk or xp cd to boot on? From there you can easily format and delete partitions.

Turns out my DVD drive was totally fried.. Borrowed a friends and done the install Smile!

Btw, I dont use floppys (thus I don't have a floppy drive) nor do I use DVDs. This was a very rare occasion when I couldn't do a network install.

Edit: BTW

Does anyone have any speed tweaks? The OS runs pretty decently overall, although the Indexing is taking up a pretty chunky section of my CPU time right now.. I found that while playing WOW its slightly chopier than in XP.. Of course I knew this would happen but any tweaks would be good Smile!

You can use an app like tuneup utilities to tweak the OS a bit, you can disable a lot of services (google e.g. http://vistarewired.com/2007/02/18/services/ ), etc.

cf. http://www.tune-up.com/download/tu2007/

Turns out the choppiness is due to running VLC in openGL mode.. So it will be fixed in time. Still, nuked about 10 services and turned off a little bit of prettiness! Woo!
