Maybe you should redownload the patch just to be sure. Or install the update to a different pc and copy the changed files to your installation.
Or maybe use uniextractor and/or msi extractor to salvage the files,then overwrite. This worked for me with Call Of Duty 2 (I don't have its installation dvd,I'd copied the whole game folder from an internet cafe,game worked gr8, but the patch didn't want to install itself)
