why would they do that. There's much much less piracy on console (you'll most likely have to wait a year for someone to crack xbox360). Develop games for console is also much easier. And you have bigger console audience. Face it, PC gaming will die. |

So you've seen all our raw dumps? but what can you use them for?
Nothing in their current form, yet! - But here we go with a nice
extractor tool so that you can extract the dumps and check out
the files, we even decided to release the source code, so that
you can figure out the filesystem and make even nicer tools and
clean up our horrible looking code, cause we are lazy and old!
Usage: extract360.exe gamename.360 ...
For example:

And a note to the tech guys:
Yes, once you get past the protections and down to the raw
bits on the disc, its just the standard xboxdvdfs, however the
offset and layer breakpoint are different!

Have you guys heard of Intel's Viiv technology?
The basic concept of it is to FORCE the user to pay for any media he/she downloads from the internet or the media won't play on the system with Viiv technology. They are currently negotiating with several software (including games, dvd, mp3 etc) and hardware (gfx cards, sound cards etc) manufacturers to incorporate the concept into their products.
Basically the processor itself becomes the protection. The software contains some mandatory encrypted data, the devices have deciphering chips and together with the processor the data is validated. It means in future every piece of software will be downloadable directly (and the unique data about your rig's architecture and Viiv signature will be sent to the site) eliminating the necessity for DVDs, CDs etc. If you want to play your freshly downloaded media, you have to first pay for it, then you get some kind of security token that will activate your media.
Oh, the activated media will play only on one computer - so no copying 
StarForce will go down for good and so is the scene (I hope not, but Viiv scares the shit out of me). The only protections that have survived cracking and hacking are hardware protections. Cracking them is very expensive and slow. You'll need special (very expensive) equipment to crack them and any decent cracker will go down that road only if it's worth for him.
I can see only one weak spot in their chain of validation - the encrypted data in the software. This is the only spot where crackers might get their fingers dirty. But if your system is full on decrypting chips, then even if you get past the processor's check your gfx card might think you try to screw him and decides not to show you any picture  The same goes for you sound card etc.
We'll see....

I like the way the greedy companies are screwing legitimate paying customers. You buy the CD/DVD & straight way you cannot even make a backup copy of it in case of damage. Any damage done is your fauly and Game won;t accept it back. So you are screwed. Buy game 2nd time. Now you want to exchange it - uh huh forget about it. Now you part-exchange it for a new game. Now the companies want to stop even this cash-saving economy. How much money do the GHayme companies want for Chrissakes? New XBoX 360 games @ £50 That's 50 POUNDS !!!

ignorant. take terrorism: they get busted all the time, and world police
hunts them down like animals. but they survive, and they continue their
terror. dont get me wrong, i dont like terrorism, but its a good thing to
compare, to see what i mean.
yes, you will need a bit more skills then just donwloading a crack to copy a
game (it has already started), and so those copy crack and thats it-noobs
will give up and buy more games or leave it be.
and for this viv shit... you cant sell everything online... too much people
still have slow lines and/or traffic limit (sadly im one of them), so they
cant download games (even if it would be legit). and selling this shit on
cd/dvd will not work cause it will be boycotted. hardware dependent
protection works only for really expensive software. a game for €40 with
hardware dependent protection no one will buy.
look at starforce, many people dont buy games with sf because of
incompatibility (driver modification and shit)
but pc games wont die, it would be a great loss of money (for developers and
for gfx card makers... who needs a fast gfx card when he doesnt play
anything on his pc)
