They had no choice. It was either Epic or no game at all. The costs were about 56M€ if I'm correct. You don't get such investment from everywhere if you want even a bit of creative freedom. Projects like Alan Wake II ('twin peaks', gameplay...) can be extremely risky and turn out to be a total flops. |
Which is why they made Control: Resonant. It's clearly aimed for a bigger audience; the couch-potatoes that only want to sit down and relax a bit with mindless hack'n'slash with ridiculously oversized weapons. It's pissing in the face of the real fans of Control.
I do get it though. They had losses in 2023 and 2024 and need to make something that will generate money. I'm just sad that they decided to fuck with Control instead of creating a spin-off hack'n'slash game that wasn't an actual sequel. Imagine if Bethesda had made Fallout 4 as a Doom-shooter. It's the same thing. imho
