That's not bad at all. I went the old fashion machinist route with a dial indicator attached to the head like you do on a machinist mill to set flatness. More contextual and familiar to me.

Really enjoying the 3D printing, such an amazing hobby Smile It's difficult to grasp at first, but so rewarding once picked up, always something to learn every day with it Smile.

Can't make my mind up about which Slicer I like though, I run both, Prusa & Cura (the Beta 4.9), which do you prefer?, or do you use something else? I honestly like both of them, maybe siding a little towards Cura. Not a lot in it for the likes of me lol Razz

I use cura, mostly because its seamless to integrate with octoprint with a plugin.
I run my 3d printer screenless I have no way to input into it from the machine itself. Everything is controlled with octoprint running on a PI with wifi.

I can still hook the screen to it if I need to (say software hiccup, or something). But as of now its all in a sealed case with fans under the bed.

Yup, screen less here too Smile with Octoprint on Pi, never touch the actual printer screen. I have it so I can turn it off/on via a relay board also, so all controlled from another room completely. There is a plugin for Prusa also for Octoprint now Smile

Grabbed the Micro Swiss - Direct Drive Extruder (including all metal hotend), along with a 50W heater/Thermistor, & a couple of Noctuas (40x20) to shove on there. Also got a nice 8mm Endoscope for the nozzle view (could watch that all day, every day, lol), now that I've found out how to stream 2 webcam views in Octoprint.

Bit of work involved here. Hotend casing is not compatible, so I will have to print my own (doing so right now), and modify to accept holder for the nozzle cam. Wiring on these replaceable thermistor/heater jobs are way too short (1M), so they will have to be extended. Another buck will have to be wired in also, as I don't wanna risk running 4 fans off the one unit, although, fans pull nowhere near the max of 2A each to possibly overload it, I'd still rather have 2 on each buck. A lot of fiddly jiggery to get axis's all correct again, that, and the new position of the BLTouch sensor. So a lot of firmware edits ahead Smile New bed nuts finally arrived, I wanted blue ones to go with theme, so I waited a long time for them, so perfect timing there

Course, I may just need a Dual Z upgrade after?, if weight is an issue, lol.

Who says I'm bored during lock-down? lol Very Happy

@scaramonga I've been considering upgrades along those lines. A direct drive and new head. But still stalling on pulling the trigger. Congrats on the upgrade!

I did upgrade all my fans to Noctua. Not sure if you are replacing the fans with them or adding them. But they are a LOT quieter aren't they? Smile

@Areius
And print whatever you want. But It's not for everyone for sure.
I print miniatures, holders for things like my g2 headset and knuckles VR controllers, cable managers that are made to fit my desk, headphone stand that snaps onto my desk, etc. Storage/sorting stuff for my garage workshop. Parts for my son's halloween cosplay/costume.
Custom socket/wall mounts for all the alexa in the house that clamps/screws into the screw holes onto our outlet covers so they are above the sockets. Phone holders for all the vehicles that are made to fit into a place and use existing dash screws to hold it. Vs those ugly generic ones you can buy.

Really anything I need that I can go "I need a thing for this..wait I can design and print one".

Cheers m8!!

Yeah, all Noctua's Smile 2 x 40x20 at hotend/part cooling, 2 x 40x10 on mainboard, and a 92x14 on PSU. Night & day as regards to noise Mr. Green so quiet now, more so the PSU, as original one was a screamer. The Swiss DD kit is pretty sweet, well made and of very good quality, comes with everything, so its a good buy, but if you have a 3V2, then you will need to print your own holder/cover, as I've done.

Anyone know the temp tables for those cheap thermistors (4 in a pack) jobs? No name brand, and they are the upgraded 50W type (300+c). Can't be assed calibrating a table for it, and my meter is out by 4c (that's if I'm at sea level lol) so just makes the job harder. PITA, but I'd be happy to get one near enough Smile

Thermistors for the bed?
I think long as you are rough ballpark is good enough. Bed temp isn't super critical to be precise.

If your talking for the head, then not sure. Never picked up any of the chinesium ones myself to know if they are accurate at all even with a chart for settings for them.

Yeah thx buddy Smile Hotend it is, just I hate temps being off by 10c, so 210 print, results in 200 or 190. In middle of calibrating, lol, takes an age it does, then I gotta compile firmware and upload again lol. Thx for response though Smile

How did the thermistors work out, Was they accurate enough? Didn't wake up after a print to a plastic bird nest did you?

Thx, yeah, manually tabled the thermistor myself with a meter, seems pretty accurate enough at the minute, and should be able for temps up to 300c now. Printing a lot better since the dual axis upgrade and DD Smile Still got to put the Ender 6 together, so we'll see how that fares against the V2.

looking to get a 3d printer, obviously Ender 3 is the first choice. But which version? Should I go with Ender 3 pro vs Ender 3 V2? The main differences being the Pro’s enhanced stability and print quality with a sturdier base for the Y axis from what I read. But that might be actually related to Ender 3 Pro vs Ender 3 V1. Can anybody comment on that?

Not obviously the Ender 3 anything Smile The Voxelab Aquila will save you a pretty penny, and in all honstey, is a really good printer for the money Wink One thing to note. Once you start with whatever 'base' you wish, it's addictive, and you will mod the hell out of it regardless Very Happy So my advice, go cheap, then build from there. Don't be fooled with 'Pro' this, 'MAX' that, as you will damn well make it that anyway Wink The V2 is what I started with, and it's going pretty cheap today also. You can't go wrong with either. Just get yourself an RPi, if you don't already have one, as that will save a whole heap of troubles, and ensures you never need to be near your printer whatsoever. Once you see that 'first' print done, whether downloaded, or designed yourself, you will be hooked, that is what you have to worry about Very Happy Damn the 'lock-down' for this!

Little tip for the masses in this world of 3D shitting Smile

To make anything a lot stronger, and save the world from plastic, lol Laughing Only 'infill @10%', yup, only that, but set 'Infill Line Multiplier' @ 2 with 'Grid'. Print out 2 small cubes, and see which one crushes easier Wink You will thank me in your mind, and I wish you many happy days printing Smile

How did your enclosure come out?
The ones they come with (if your new one even fit it) always seem the cheapest part of the whole printer. I can see why, its a non-essential part. But always makes them feel: This is a nice printer...the board/control case though not so much. Is that an aliexpress generic plastic hobby box?

Bottom part was great Smile No problems at all, the top, another story lol. Decided to change filament and do top in grey, but the thing started playing up? Clogs etc, different filament, so I will put it down to that. Eventually got it done, but not as smooth as the bottom section.

Couple of Noctua 40's in there, should be fine Smile

Thats nice looking! really compact and functional.
Way less complicated than what I did.

And it might be the filament. Not sure if different brand than the blue.
But I've had to fiddle with settings and temps for supposedly same-same on paper filament, but two different brands.

I had one brand that other than the color they was dead the same. But white would print beautiful with settings, then grey wound birds nest, and clump, and clog until I found what it liked.
I've just decided to stick with esun brand. So far its the most consistent no matter what color or such I use by them.

I really really really want a relatively good 3D printer. No budget for it though. I have a friend who owns several different models (in various states.. he's converting one into a circuit board printer). I can't remember what his current 3D printer is but it's been tweaked and modded to make pretty damn smooth prints. I'm planning to ask him to print certain items (ie. looking up models online that he can print for me).

I'll ask him to print all the sides of the Lament Configuration (the Hellraiser puzzle box) that I can glue onto a wooden cube (getting the weight is important), paint and glue copper/gold foil on the embossed details that I'll stain/antique and finally a coat of protective lacquer.

I'll put that down to Covid, may as well?, lol. But all good Smile
