Did not want to create a new thread.

So my PC is super old - as in Intel Q6600 and 780TI Very Happy Obviously I'm not keeping anything other than my SSD.

I was thinking about building a new one. The budget is not super limited - up to 4- 4.5 k USD i think.

Is it not a good time to build a higher end system? Should I wait for 3080?

With that budget, of course you should wait.

Then again, with that budget you can probably afford to upgrade every 3 months Laughing

Sorry, I did not mention - I bought an SSD not that long ago, I have a Samsung EVO 860 - I think it would be ok as a secondary drive.

I think I can probably start now and get a 3080 later.

You dont need crazy expensive SSD, i'd only get 512gb capacity and store anything large via NAS slow disk. Pretty sure 16gb of RAM is still more than enough, could get away with a 6-8 core Ryzen for ages as well. Most likely get 3080 if pricing is to be as low as rumoured in your region.

Ofc spend more if you have cash to spend and don't care.

My opinion: Wait for Zen 3 and get a PCIe 4.0 mobo.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Didn't want to start a new thread so posting here.

I'm coming from an i5 4570.

I recently ordered:
- Ryzen 3600
- Asrock B450m Steel Legend
- 16GB G.Skill Flare X for AMD black DDR4-3200 DIMM CL16 dual kit
- be quiet! Pure Rock 2

The above will be coupled with a KFA GTX 1080 and a 650W EVGA G3 power supply inside a Define C case.

I decided to go with a 3600 since I'm more or less gaming only, the Zen 3 prices are too high for me and I can still upgrade to Zen 2 after the new bioses are released for the B450 series and the prices drop. The 3600 I should be able to resell easily as well and the Pure Rock 2 can handle a 3700x (and I'm guessing the 5xxx series processors with a similar TDP) as well.

The above cost me 340€ from Mindfactory.de with an additional cost of about 14€ for the forwarding company to ship the package to my country.

Do you guys think I made a good decision? Personally I think it's ok since it doesn't break the bank and this ram can be overclocked on this motherboard up to 3600mhz. The 3600 should be able to squeeze some more FPS out of the 1080 as well.

It's a good budget rig. There will always be better options if you throw more money at it. It'll be a very nice upgrade from your old system.

This. CPU performance scaling has been stagnant for years for just gaming. I got like, 5-10FPS increase when I went from my 4790K to a 8700K.

GPUs. The 10xx series were great and still scale well. Don't care or need all that new fancy bullshit they throw in that makes games run even worse. Gunna be a long time before I find that my 1080ti isn't producing anymore, given games are all held back by console design now.

I plan to keep my 1080 for awhile as well. Served me well for 3 years and it should be fine for several more. Consoles are getting multiple cores so it's very likely that the console ports will be able to use them on PC as well so I think that upping the core count on my PC is a good idea.

The 5800x is only "bad" if you need the extra 4 cores that the 5900x offers (for ~$100 more).

=> NFOrce GIF plugin <= - Ryzen 3800X, 16GB DDR4-3200, Sapphire 5700XT Pulse

i don't like this build at all.

First mistake over invest on cpu rather than on gpu, that's the most basic mistake. the 5600x is more than enough for years ahead, instead i'd buy a better gpu the 6800xt or the 3080.

the ssd i'd go with one that delivers 5000 read at least to match potatoes, the rest is fine.

Don't cheap out on the PSU. A 80 Plus Platinum at the range you are looking for is not that expensive, especially when considering the total cost of your PC.

This right there, them Youtubers all saying the 5800X is MEH !
The fuck ?
I agree it might be better priced if in the 400$ range but they are all like : "Hey for 100€ more you get the 5900X !"
100€ for 4 more cores most games don't give a fuck about ... And 5800X gives more performance than a 5600X in games.

My plan was to put these 100€ in a better a graphics card (ie. a 6800XT rather than RX6800 or 3080 rather a 3070)

Now if you plan to do serious things with your PC (other than games) yeh go with a 5900X.

Serious Rig: CPU : Ryzen7 9800X3D | GC : NVIDIA RTX 5080 FE | Mobo : MSI MPG Carbon X870E | RAM : 64GB DDR5 TridentZ5 Neo 6000 | Case : Fractal Define 7 XL | Cooler : Fractal Celcius S28 Prisma | PSU : Corsair RX1000 Shift | Monitor : LG Oled C2 42" 4K/G-Sync
Mobile Rig : Asus ROG751 JT | i7-4720HQ | GTX 970m | 16GB DDR3 \ G-Sync
Just for the LUL: PS4 Pro / Nintendo Switch / Wii U
$team, Orishit, Upay, PSN : Athlonic
