Because I don't feel like blanking everything and starting over just because of *one* thing that has already been taken care of. That's massive overkill to me

well, i usually disable mse and defender because everytime i start downloading a huge torent, they lock my system until files are created and checked. which drove me nuts.
i have process explorer open every time i start windows, and i scan for rootkits every week.
from time to time i fire up https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/ to.
i'm checking processes with network activity from time to time aswell (in resource manager).

Win 8+ takes all of 8 mins max to install on a freshly formatted drive. Nothing else need be done, if you keep just the OS on that one drive (preferably an SSD), and everything else installed on a storage drive. All games, as in Steam will still be there, and picked up upon installing the client, and all the warez games reside as is anyway.

If I was to do a reinstall today, then it would take me no more than half an hour, even with 2TB stuff on storage, that gets untouched with the installation anyway.

The biggest time waster is just installing whatever drivers one needs, but that is even easier if you just grab them beforehand, or have them already.

Gone are the days when a reinstall was a tedious task, and in fact, could easily be done every day if one wishes to do so, as it takes very little time and effort. It is also quicker to do so, instead of restoring from a backup image, in most cases, which also makes that kind of software a waste of time and money these days.

Honestly, the ONLY thing I install on 'C' drive is the OS at hand, the rest goes elsewhere. Then we can wipe & go, rinse & repeat, to ones hearts content.

Of course, you could always take a snapshot of your 'C' drive, once you have it setup, but that's another story lol.... Smile

Reinstalling is not an 8m task. Maybe the OS, but not the programs, not the settings, not spending HOURS customising Windows and getting everything running and looking as I like it. The answer is no. I'm not doing it and I'd be happy if you stopped pushing the issue, you may have zero customisation, no settings outside of default, no programs installed other than mspaint.exe but I do and it's not an 8m task reinstalling everything and the idea of going all nuclear scorched earth and wiping my entire machine just because of ONE "thing" that has been cleared off anyway just sounds incredibly extreme.

LOL! Sabs, I ain't pushing Laughing, just saying Very Happy

As for 'customization', well, some things are better left alone, but can still be done in 'idle' time, regardless, as in, 'no hurry', should you wish to bring the OS to its knees Wink

Sorry, it's just twice that I've been told to give up, format, wipe everything.. and it's just too extreme for a situation that is resolved (as best I know )

Sabin not sure you have thought of this but if you DO reinstall your OS, after you get it set up again for instance all as you wish and before you have installed any games image the OS, so that it will if you have to do it again sometime only take you a short few mins all but the game installs ( you must be on 100000mb/s in norway anyhow so no biggie for u eh Very Happy )
