Is there an issue with the s3 displaying gif images. Whenever i try and watch anything from the 'best gif ever' thread on here it just coughs and splutters while loading the gifs and eventually freezes the browser.
Tried many different browsers which all give the same result.

Opera loads it fine here as well (HTC Desire). That last GIF added (the football one) takes about 90 seconds to load, but that may be my wifi (about 20m from the access point at the moment, two floors up, so reception is pretty terrible ).

Haha, that's the factory reset code
Doesn't work on Nexus S(tested way back) or Nexus. Works one some other droids as well.
Are people seriously hearing about this JUST now?

That code is as old as the SGS1, which is a lot. Of course, considering I have, at one time, worked in a phone service office, I may have known about this code before the public. It may be even older as I was constantly using it to factory reset several slide phones as well.

but again, the point wasn't that it was just tricking people into entering it themselves, but actually just doing it on its own.
and I have the previous win mobile 6.5 version of the galaxy (or something like that), which besides being a horrible piece of crap, I also used the same reset code on

My S3 is currently rooted and rocking the standard Vodafone UK ICS software. Now that Vodafone UK has released JellyBean, how's best for me to update?
Is it just a case of finding the stock JB rom as a zip and put it onto my sd card and then go into recovery>install update from zip etc..?

Jelly Bean is great. However, you should do anything and everything in your power to stay away from Vodafone or any other carrier builds. They are chock full of bloatware which can't be installed or disabled.
Just a heads-up

If other carriers are like Vodafone RO, then ROM's should be chock full of bloatware. I had to install a custom ROM on the Nexus mainly because the Vodafone ROM which came with it was chocking up my memory thus reducing performance a lot.

What do you recommend as a decent rom then? A good all-rounder while keeping the battery life and performance.

Stock unbranded, obviously. You can find these on the samfirmware.com site. Just make an account. It's only updated with official Samsung firmware.
Also, the kernel mentioned earlier sounds really good on paper, if it behaves as it says there then you should install exactly that.

Depends on the user, mostly. Also, the whole front (touch, display, buttons, mic, etc) is part of a module which costs about half the price of the phone. Other than that, it's really great.

Oh, also, it's going to be my first top-of-the-line Android phone and I know literally nothing about rooting.
1.Is it worth it? Should I do it, why?
2. What is the difference (if there is) between rooting your phone and using a custom rom?
3. Does it void the warranty? If yes, can you hide it in any way?
4. Any newbie-friendly tutorials out there?

1. If I were you, I would get an HTC One X, it's much sturdier and much better built. Also, the screen is downright awesome. Imo, the only screen which comes anywhere near it, quality-wise (viewing angles, fidelity of color and so on) would the one on the iPhone 5 and there's native Sense interface (it's really great on the One X).
2. Rooting your phone gives you access to the root memory, allowing for changes(uninstalling, clearing data) of built-in apps (usually to get rid of typical carrier bloatware which can't be uninstalled. Installing a custom ROM means replacing the Android version native to the device to something homebrewed by someone. Normally, custom ROM's either have as a main feature the default ICS/Jelly Bean look (such as Cynaogen) or performance upgrades(at the cost of stability).
3. Usually, when installing a custom ROM, one would be required to unlock a phone's bootloader, which will void your warranty and there is nothing you can do to make it look as if you didn't unlock it. I tried it.
4. I wouldn't recommend installing custom firmware just for the sake of it unless you have an old device which is lacking official ice cream sandwich/jelly bean support. The ROM's preinstalled on either the SGS3 or the One X are simply put, the best for those respective phones.
Hope this helped. Also, you can hammer nails with a One X.

I dropped my S3 several times from ~1m, nothing happened. As for rooting, absolutely do it since you can remove bloatware, backup properly, get access to everything and much more. Rooting is simply put "breaking down the walls". After that you can either continue using the Samsung ROM or try a custom ROM. With the S3 you don't void warranty since you can reset the counter (well you could a couple of months ago anyway). You void your warranty with the One X for example since you have to register at htcdev to root. If the choice is between One X and S3, I'd recommend S3 since battery life is much better and the SD card slot is a very very useful addition (yes yes I know I am a fanboy since I happen to own an S3).
