That was a stylistic choice, not an engine limitation. It was not pre-baked.
I could have sworn I saw loads of articles at the time about how Unity had the most pre-baked lighting of any game etc. so I always assumed that was why it looked so nice.
Was Syndicate any good? That night gameplay looks really atmospheric. I always avoided it because Unity was such an unholy bugfest.
Syndicate wasn't bug-free, none of these games are, but it was a normal AC affair. The story itself wasn't very interesting, but I did find the setting and world pretty at least.
I really enjoyed it. The city is beautifully recreated and fun to run around in. Stealth is the best it's been in years. Music is great. Now give Ubi Bordeaux a proper budget and get them to make a proper AC game.
I despise them showing "total X hours spent doing Y". Means nothing. Netflix does the same, super vague large numbers that tell you nothing of the actual succes.
Hey, I pet a cat when I was walking through the city! That number includes me! That means I'm part of something, yaaaay!
played around 1h and game is so fucking bland and boring. basim just isnt main character material, stealth is boring with dead ai, running and climbing is buggy and not smooth, combat bearly does any damage. city looks great and music is very nice but for what. going back to roots wanted to be this polished little thing and not this half baked game. its pretty much like that old ac liberated or whatever it was called and the other one where u played as a templar. this game having back too roots everytime someone mentiones it is mostly a marketing gimmick
I've tried all the AC reboot games up to Mirage and I just don't like any of them. Something feels off and the gameplay doesn't feel as good as in the older games.
they lack the artistic vision and tight design of the early ones. Their combat sucked but it was carried by charismatic characters, mystery, environments that didn't feel randomly generated and fancy animations. The writing in the new ones is a borefest and lacks any intrigue or mystery. I dont know what it is with modern corpo writing and sterilizing any emotion out of a story but it do be like that.
Celebrate the two-year anniversary of Assassin’s Creed Mirage with Valley of Memory. This free major update expands Basim’s story, introduces the stunning region of AlUla, and delivers fan-requested gameplay enhancements to the full game.
Probably one of the few AC games I skipped so might be worth a look now.
The responses in the comments seem surprisingly positive for a Ubisoft video!
