Not as much as Firefox though, that's at least rendering pages about twice as fast here.
PC: Yes. Console: No.

Ok, that's it. Chrome is gone for good. More and more sites I visit regularly don't work properly (can't log in, clicking on buttons doesn't work etc. etc.).
It's been years and years since I switched from Firefox. Time to reacquaint myself with it. I just need to find ways to transfer bookmarks, passwords etc.

uninstall it, delete your profile, install it and create a new profile.
never had such problems, even with the newest version.
something wrong at your end either because of some weird bug or because your profile or installation is corrupted for what ever reason

I have noticed no such problems either.
@ Frant
Can you name an example of a site with problems?

Are you using regular version? I had all sorts of problems until I switched to Canary release.

I think, initially there was some delay but the dark-mode started working for me later, yesterday.
Loving it. Very soft on the eyes.

Yeah. Firefox went downhill with it's memory leaks and bloat while Chrome took #1 spot as a fast and memory conservative browser. When the FF-team @ Mozilla saw the rapid decline they did a LOT of work and planning and came up with Quantum. Meanwhile, when I used Chrome which I did since 2014 after I ditched the old Firefox, I felt Chrome went the same way as Firefox, bloating and becoming more complex under the hood leading to either bugs or unwanted behavior.
Quote: | In 2016, Mozilla announced a project known as Quantum, which sought to improve Firefox's Gecko engine and other components to improve Firefox's performance, modernize its architecture, and transition the browser to a multi-process model. These improvements came in the wake of decreasing market share to Google Chrome, as well as concerns that its performance was lapsing in comparison. Despite its improvements, these changes required existing add-ons for Firefox to be made incompatible with newer versions, in favor of a new extension system that is designed to be similar to Chrome and other recent browsers. Firefox 57, which was released in November 2017, was the first version to contain enhancements from Quantum, and has thus been named Firefox Quantum. A Mozilla executive stated that Quantum was the "biggest update" to the browser since version 1.0. |
Mozilla did a great job and the work they did on Firefox have made competition strong again leading to Google working harder to fix old issues and improve their tech.
Meanwhile Microsoft dumped Internet Explorer and introduced Edge which obviously didn't work. Now they're releasing Edge Chromium as if that will make a difference.

Obviously there will be a LOT you have never heard of or experienced yourself. That doesn't mean it's fake.
(getting Trump vibes now) |
I got it fixed by the way. I deleted all chrome installations, reset everything on my phone, went through all google pages and revisited the rights etc. Deleted and re added accounts. After a shit ton of time spent removing everything and readding it, it worked again! I don't know what it was that fixed this stupid issue, but it definitely started totally on it's own and requried a ton of work on my end.

Not shure if its allready known, but you can "Force" dark mode in Chromium/chrome...
Just use Commandline:
"--enable-features=WebUIDarkMode --force-dark-mode"

I do, i just use chromium for testing purposes...

Why is Firefox Quantum so taxing compared to chrome?
Imgur frontpage, both browsers only using ublock origin |
that is a good question.
For Firefox it says GPU - 3D mode
For CHrome it says GPU - Video decode.
I guess FF uses an higher state for rendering pics, gif etc on imgur??
Maybe you can change this behavior in about:config...
EDIT!!!
To be honest, its also very depended on whats on screen right now, the front page changes all the time..
If you have teh frontpage full of GIF´s and Videos that are all autoplaying then yes, it is more taxing..
Lets pick out an example that doesnt change and is compareable..
So, this is what i did.. And no, Firefox is NOT more taxing..
Ok, first, we use an imgur page that doesnt change for the TEST period..
i took this here:
Spoiler: | |
I made shure that on each browser i test this on, the exact same stuff is VISIBLE on each test.. same size, zoom level, etc etc..
ok here we go...
CHROMIUM NEWEST BUILD:
FireFox: v64
FireFox: v.56.xx
As you can see, they are all pretty much the same.. +/- 2%.
