great remaster but I wish there was ps3 remaster available too. I like my games as vanilla as can be but with better framerate and resolution.
But this can be an exception since it captures the game perfectly

http://www.kotaku.co.uk/2018/02/07/shadow-of-the-colossus-players-try-to-solve-the-mystery-of-the-golden-coins
Quote: | Shadow of the Colossus’ remake does more than spruce up the game’s graphics, it also adds an entirely new collectible for players to find. Players hunting down these hidden trinkets believe they are on the path to a new secret but there’s a hurdle in their path—they don’t know how many exist or what will happen when all of them are found.
The original Shadow of the Colossus dotted the game world with white-tailed lizards and special fruit that increase the player’s stamina and health respectively. The game didn’t kept track of these items and the only reward for finding them was the ability to reach a garden at the top of the Shrine of Worship. The garden contained a new type of fruit that decreased the player’s health and stamina. The remake keeps these secrets, but also adds dozens of golden trinkets around the game world that appear to be gold coins. |
May the NFOrce be with you always.

you guys will hate me but even though the graphics are remastered to perfection I think the game itself looks severely dated... the gameplay mechanics are limited as hell and the controls are clunky (having to press R2 to climb non stop, and sometimes jumps are buggy to the millemeter)...
I also think the world looks empty, and I remember this was criticzed here in Zelda BOTW but it feels a lot more alive in Zelda... Probably got too spoiled by Zelda now
I mean it kinda looks like the poor man God of war, and doesn't seem like a AAA game to me but more like a indie game like Journey, Azbu, etc...
But I know back then on PS2 god of war wasn't even here so it was amazing... I remember...

They're sticking too close to the original, most likely. It was groundbreaking when new, i'm sure, but today's standards are very different from what they once were. Games today have more activities and enormous open worlds and with today's hardware the worlds doesnt need to be empty either. I can understand the original design choice - they wanted a graphically stunning game but for that to happen they had to make it rather empty. But sure, that also adds a certain atmosphere.
At least the price for this is decent, it's something i could consider buying at a sale. It should probably be considered an indie game and not be compared to AAA-games. Reviews in the 9-10's i don't take too seriously, at best it's probably more like a 7/10, but it would never get that kind of review from the bigger sites because it would piss off the people who grew up with this game etc..
Edit: how big is the map btw?

The game is all about the atmosphere, it is a masterpiece in its own right. There is no point in trying to rate it by cheap quantities like the amount of ubishitty busywork activities à la assassins creed.
Very often, less is more, especially in today's game industry.
It deserves every 9/10 it gets, even now, and especially back then.

games can have different atmosphere's though, i'm guessing it's quite samey throughout the whole game? i don't mind completely empty and desolate places in games at all, it can be very atmospheric. But yeah, i also like when the atmosphere changes, then its also easier to appreciate a particular mood/atmosphere or theme because you have something else to compare to.

Got around to finish this in about 8h. Timing was perfect, I really needed this atmospheric setting with no pesky volumes of enemies, just run to the boss.
Story took an interesting turn, did not expect that. Gameplay is easy but pleasant. I felt really bad by hunting and killing such creatures
