What's best about this is it seems they're sticking to the old content, but also supplementing it with new. A welcome addition, because there's a lot of unutilised and underutilised areas in G1.
It also looks like they scaled down the world to be more closer to the original in size, the teaser was unnecesarily large.

yeah i'm a big fan of that too, since Ultima 7... Best experience when it comes to that i've had is with Oblivion. Obviously with tons of mods... if this comes close to that it would be awesome, but i very much doubt it. I doubt we'll see other adventurers (like yourself) in the world etc.
I remember in some Gothic (/Risen) game being bullied / thrown out from some camp or town, like a ragged poor peasant with no armor and a stick as a weapon.
And then returning later as champion, max armor, upgraded weapons, bad ass one-hitting everyone.
That's fucking progression and character development! You know... just like... in real life...
Other thing i noted is there is a knock back effect when you get hit now looks like which would save you from getting mobbed to death in seconds by scavengers.
Honestly looks pretty good, graphical style is excellent
edit: saw people complain about the colors, well i dont remember G1 being colorful.. G2 is the one that had a lot more lush forests etc. Although G1 had the swamp. I do agree the questlog with the check boxes are shit and the UI is too clean and lacking flair but it's still a modern game and this is the current style of our times.
the colors are good. G1-G2 are very cartoony. G3 much less so and it's G3 they should also look at (for graphics) because its a more modern game and how the devs realized Gothic when they had better budget, engine, more experience etc.
i realized in the demo you don't play the nameless hero, that's why he has a different hair/look.
Look man, what kind of idiots design such way of controling the character / especially in combat?! They never been in a damn fight?! They never studied any kind of martial art?!
Just read they will not be "modernizing" the game by pushing agendas. So the penal colony for male convicts will not get suddenly turned into a lgbtqwertyz camp for mentally ills.
I think at this point of development it might be too late to drastically change the tone.
