I played a couple of chapters during the beta (Realism mode with kickback, increased difficulty and additional guns), the uber meaty shooting with the extra-gory details were simply phenomenal. There's nothing as satisfying as this mod for me when it comes to the pure shooting, it makes even SoF feel tame in comparison

ya i installed it again on the weekend, its better than a lot of modern shooters, so goddamn fun.. the double barrel shotgun is ridiculous and even with all the additional guns its still well balanced, i die often on ultra-violence.
I've been playing Sigil with Smooth Doom mod and I have to admit, it is still so much more fun than modern craploa. Smooth Doom is a great mod which I didn't know before. It keeps the spirit of Doom, while making animations smoother and some extended gore effects, without the nonsense of Beautiful Doom or Brutal Doom.

Hm, can't say that I've heard of those. But from description, I don't think they are for me. I tent to prefer a more vanilla experience, especially when playing the Doom levels. TCs are a different story. Smooth Doom enhances the original Doom, while not really changing the game too much.
I'll check Dead Marine, if it's compatible with Smooth Doom.
Dead Marine adds some gore and changes the sound etc. The gameplay stays the same. Final Doomer adds weapon sets inspired by megawads. Try out its Plutonia weapon set first, it is a weapon set that is optimised for close combat.
So, any ultra mega super AI scaled Doom goodness out there yet?
I'm currently playing through plutonia using GZdoom and while it looks pretty ok a "proper" looking 2D Doom would be even better

There was a 2x mod in the works iirc, though I don't know whether it was ever completed.

Currently going through TNT and the original, already finished Plutonia (can't say if it is the hardest one or if it felt like that because that was the first one).

I played the two chapters back when they were released, felt like a proper Wolfie game in terms of scope, production values and actual level design. Just old-school unfiltered fun, certainly more impressive than MachineGames' last two iterations
