You know the show takes place in 2070 and not 1950s?

Could have fooled me (and I guess they did, in fact )
So I found this timeline -
https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Timeline
The best guess is that the "Divergence" occurs some time between mid. 1945 - 1961 (which makes sense given the cold war vibes). Prior to that, major events seem to line up with what we all know (world wars etc.) The thing is, even AFTER the supposed timeline divergence, some major events still happen (like the US entering Vietnam in 1965 for instance).
Also of note on said timeline, Gettysburgh, Lincoln etc, all still happen - so slavery was very much a thing in the Fallout timeline (both in the past and in the future it seems) - with nothing really pointing to the fact that the whole civil right's movement wouldn't have happened.
There is a small blurb in the article at -
https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Divergence#U.S._politics
with regards to racial segregation coming to an end, but it doesn't mention when.
I guess technology kept advancing before the bombs, but everyone just decided to halt aesthetic changes in the 1950's.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Same here, I played up to FO3. At ep.2 I thought it was gonna be dumpster fire, but it did get better from there. Definitely geared more at the newer games as I genuinely found FO1-2 to have a more serious tone.

Finished it. I liked the first episodes more than the later ones, i liked the less serious / dark tone in those, more about just adventuring and fuckery, colorful characters etc (which is what i like in the games too).
Overall i'd give it 7.5/10 and i would agree with Tim Cain (the creator of FO) that they got it right.. it's a good mix of serious and humor.
The main problem is that it really only has two good characters which is the ghoul and lucy and i kind of like Norm too actually, but this is far too few.
kinda sad that

what does that have to do with anything? of course the series is going to have both good and evil characters, i just found it boring that they used that old trope (which also makes it feel like a typical modern show, with modern themes / politics.)
Not a biggie, just a bit predictable.
I have no doubt it's going to be more woke in S2, but whatever, i don't even expect modern shows to be even this non-woke for 1 season lol

never said it was woke though, i said the opposite. i just said this one thing is a typical leftist trope that has become predictable and boring in modern shows. and no, having evil black characters doesn't "even it out" or whatever you're thinking lol
The games are way better, i feel they're more in the grey area of morality, here it's very handed to you (well, it's not the series fault, it's just how a linear medium like this works).
This was much better than Last of Us series though, which was super, super boring and only really got a few things right, it wasn't scary / tense or had any good action scenes, like the game).

nah not at all |
how is that saying S1, which we are discussing, is woke?
the bait and switch shit is super common for modern series so i absolutely expect that shit, if not i'll be happy, just like i was happy here (expected total garbage). i don't give a shit if some "modern elements" is there, as long as it's not preachy, and it wasn't.

On the side note, if you really like this you should watch Z Nation - it has the same vibe, but less budget.

I wonder if they explain the idea behind dropping the bombs a little more as for now, this is the dumbest motivation for the corporation to do what they did. Unless there is something they are not telling us now, this will just serve as a dumb plot device which would be a shame as the rest is very entertaining and properly convey the game setting.

Maybe you weren't paying due attention. It is quite clearly explained in ep. 6 or 7.
Regardless, any more stories/background info from the past would be welcome, as those scenes are pretty damn good.

like i said, the show having an element of it is one thing, a show going all in with it, preaching etc, that's something else and something i just wouldn't watch, or endorse. The season wasn't woke. Should be pretty easy to understand, dude.
@mortis4321 yeah, that part of the story is pretty laughable and doesn't make a lot of sense. I did watch what Tim Cain had to say about it and no, the original idea is not that they nuked first. but whatever i guess, it's Bethesda's now. the idea that the vaults are used for "experiments", he talked about that a year ago i noticed.

I'm late to the party and started watching it yesterday and I've watched episode 1,2 and 3 so far.
I'm having fun watching it (that's the point isn't it) and I'm kind of blown away by how good the props and the set design is. It's definitely better than I thought it would be... so far.

Nexus Mods are brought to their knees because of the series success.
"A large part of this has been due to the success and subsequent huge volume of traffic related to the Fallout series on Amazon Prime. The show was an instant hit and Fallout-mania has exploded on Nexus Mods, with a significant number of gamers looking to mod their Fallout experience. This has been amplified by game sales, with 75% off Fallout games on Steam, GOG and Fallout 4 also soon to be launching on Epic Games."
"As you can see, Fallout 4 and Fallout New Vegas have seen big spikes on the site, contributing to peaks of 24 million total file downloads per day"
