No.

Sony already said that all games will be released for both PS4 and PS4 Pro, that is valid for PSVR games too.

Yea but in a year or more you can expect the new games to run at unplayable 20-22 fps on PS4 Poor while only the Pro can keep steady 30 fps.
I don't even want to imagine what RDR2 will look and run like on PS Poor.

Or maybe RDR2 will run at a steady 30 fps on PS4 and a steady subpar 30fps on fake 4K on PS4 pro ? Who knows what Rockstar is aiming...

You are pulling a JackQ with assumptions and predictions like that Laughing

no but you are Laughing

Why would the developers concentrate on the weaker device when they could have an easier job simply releasing it at a stable framerate on the pro and vomiting out a quick unoptimized shitty 20 fps job on standard one?
Time and time again the mainstream audience has shown they dont give a shit about how crappy a game runs, you admit that yourself countless times.

on PC this is true. On console ? Too early to tell, maybe JackQ's crystal ball (which seemed defective last week anyway) can give you the answer already but I want to be proved wrong thanks to time.

I hope that Cockstar knows that they would most likely be even more successful if the game runs fine on what most people have : a standard PS4.

I can understand that they wouldn't really optimize a game for PC because you don't have 2 PCs, you have endless possibilities of different PCs.
Also, what is a "bad PC" ? I see some people here complaining that this or that game doesn't run on his PC fully maxed but who even said that they are supposed to be running this or that game fully maxed?

On the other hand, you don't have video settings on PS4, that is true on PS4 pro too. The game will automatically scale accordingly to your system (PS4 Pro vs PS4). Yes I know some PS4 Pro games like ROTR allows you to choose between high details @30 fps vs lower details @ 60fps. It's still not comparable to PC settings for the same games that has 2 pages of video settings (Laughing BTW)

So no sorry but you can't compare a PS4 Pro to another PC, which is what I meant.

TLDR : you can't compare a PS4 Pro to a high-end PC.

It's hardly like the PS Pro is a powerhouse ffs!! Sony skimped on the 'upgrades' in that big time. Still, I suppose if the buyers of it feel empowered enough to deride the standard machine as 'ps poor' then Sony won't care.

Not saying its a powerhouse, it's still shittier than my fucking ancient pc, but it can deliver a few fps more than the poor edition to make a big difference when it comes to running at consistent 30 fps or completely unplayable 25. I guess we should stop JackQ-ing as cyclone said and just wait and see.

Laughing hopefully you are wrong cuz I'm tired of subpar 20 fps... which was more & more true at the end of PS3 (and is really true with TLG)

And:

x poor - 10 fps - the real cinematic western edition (I.e.: you mostly watch it on static, sepia screenshots Laughing)

The Last Guardian is certainly not a good sign, but FFXV skips frames on all PS4 models, so it could be argued it's universally shitty (although lite mode on pro helps things somewhat) - pretty much as it was for the last 12 years, all good Razz

Still, I think it's too early to tell. Sony was really adamant about setting some standards on how Pro can be used, because they know they can lose their playerbase's trust easily, especially with Scorpio on the horizon. I think it's possible we'll see them forcing them rules and making sure games are in good enough shape on base PS4 a lot harder in the future.

Sony can force rules, for example they only allow constant 60 FPS games on PSVR.

Surely they can do the same for 30 FPS non VR games ?!?

I was sad to see Gravity Rush 2 runs at 30 fps on PS4 Poor (although it seems constant 30fps, not like TLG)... I wonder if it runs at 60fps on PS4 Pro ? Such game needs 60 fps.

The difference isn't dramatic at all... Sure you can see it if you compare both consoles but changing the whole game experience ? nope.

Remembers me the PC section when comparing PS4 version of a game vs ultra settings PC version... where there is barely any difference Laughing

No point in trying to "boost" Bloodborne, the game always had relatively solid 30 fps, but the framepacing is fucked and only From can change that by fixing their code.

The game really needs a proper PC release, so that we can finally "bruteforce" the issue with 60 fps and Rivatuner Smile

Traded in and got a Pro today, not an exciting upgrade by any means but For Hodor looks great in "4k" and it's quicker for sure. New gamepad is nice too, sweet little lightbar that actually does not distract like the horrible xbox one light.

All in all a nice upgrade but i only bought it because i got tired of seeing so much difference in resolution when switching between my PC (1440p gaming/4k desktop) and PS4.

You never know in this day and age, when publishers hate used sales, what does and does not work. Are there any restrictions on used games? I'm going to buy a console, since the Nintendo one turned out to be crap, it'll be a PS4 Pro. I don't plan on buying new games though, prices are crazy. Can I just buy used games and play? Will I miss anything with an old game/code?

Not really. U sometimes lose access to some launch DLC, but 9 times out of 10 it's just a shitty item or something like that. Also, some collection games, for example Destiny editions that include DLCs, can't be traded, because DLC's are actually codes redeemed through PSN. But other than that, you can sell/exchange/buy any used title, even a multiplayer one, and play it completely normally.

If you're not very set on steadily bulding your game collection, this can actually make gaming on a console dirt cheap nowadays. I usually just buy/exchange games I know I'll only play once and keep stuff I'll play for a long time, or just really want in my collection. It's pretty much like on PC (well, how it used to be - pre-Denuovo), only instead of isodemoning you have used games exchanged for fraction of the price. And with full functionality, including MP and so on.

I bought Guitar Hero Live Party Edition (two guitars) on a whim (it was €20) for PS4 and also bought a 4K HDR TV so I think it's time to get myself a PS4.

But, the Pro pisses me off because it makes the decision a lot tougher. I know all PS4's have HDR support, I know the resolution really doesn't mean squat since it upscales most stuff, I also know PS4 Pro is only a minor update AND there's no bundles for it yet. + it's a lot bigger and bulkier.

So it makes the decision hard - go for the PS4 Slim (with HDR suport) and a 3 games bundle for €350, or a barebones PS4 Pro for €400 ...

What would you guys do?

Ps4 pro because some games run better.

I agree with you the graphics boost aren't that great but some games like rise of the tomb raider run at 60 fps... that only would be enough to justify the extra cash.

I should have mentioned: I got a very powerful PC gaming rig and the main reason I want the PS4, is to play its exclusives + because I already have Playstation Plus for the PS3 and Vita and have a lot of PS4 games piled up in my account.

But, you're probably right that the PS4 Pro would be the better choice - bit it's €150 more expensive too since you don't get any extras.

I'd wait a couple of months for a price drop or a good bundle for the Pro. Especially when exclusives are concerned, I think over the coming months/years the difference will be more pronounced. Look at Zero Dawn for example.

I was hoping for a Zero Dawn bundle since I like the sound of that game but nope, squat. It's disgusting to see Sony pushing the 500GB model so much with bundles as well - the price difference in those sizes of hard drives is next to zero anyway.

Yeah, it's crap. They want to get rid of old stock, so I assume a price drop or bundle for the Pro won't happen soon Mad Logical from a business POV, but crap for us. I'm worried about RDR2 personally. If you remember how bad RDR ran on PS3, I think the extra power of the Pro will be more than welcome when the time comes.

Horizon on PS4 pro has barely any difference.

Unless you go 4K I actually think it's not worth the Pro.

Even on a 1080p TV you have supersampling, better shadows, better AF, better framerate. How is that barely any difference? I assume people buy a console for long years. If the first game to somewhat use the Pro's extra power already shows a clear difference, the coming exclusives will widen the gap between PS4 and Pro.

The Pro is not worth it unless you're starting from no console, and you already have a 4K with HDR, imo. The bump in specs is too small; I bet even Sony wish they'd delayed it a year more now to compete better with the new xbox, and to have allowed them to make more of a spec difference between base model and the Pro.

Not very often Sony get it wrong, but I figure this time next year it's going to be fairly obvious that neither base or pro compares at all well against the revised xbox.

I've already got an 4K HDR, but no interest at all in replacing my PS poor for a so-called 'Pro' Smile

The price difference is still making me hesitate. I mean, sure some games run better but devs can't afford not properly supporting the original because that's where the masses are. What's the market share of the pro? 10% if even that?

In the end the choice is between the slim 1tb with games bundle for 300 or the bigger and slightly faster Pro for 100 euros extra without any games. It's a tough one. Slims support HDR as well which was the main benefit the pro had I'd you ask me since its 4k mode barely gets used by games. I'm thinking it's better to get the slim and in a few years pick up a cheap Pro.
