Assuming that I am not an anime fan and never played a jrpg, should I try this one? For rpg values? I like crpg, played a lot of them, since Ishtar on Amiga.

no Japanese voices :/ the english voice of the main guy is ok I would say.

@surray about the replay value, yes there is afaik there is a bonus dungeon in NG+, there are side missions, crafting, cooking, and the coolest thing is you get grade points at the end of the battle for how well you fought. In a NG+ you can use them to purchase stuff for the new game like carry over all items or x10 exp bonus. You can even make the game harder by halving the exp if that's what you want.

The PS3 version sounds great but having to wait + uncertainness when it's coming out outside of Japan is a bummer.
As a European I feel kinda cheated. First we have to wait a year and then we get the old version of the game Sad

As European's we'll be paying for the EU tax offices decision not to classify the Sony consoles as personal computers for decades to come.
Ever since Sony got the news they have ensured that EU customers are the last customers to be considered.
In my mind that displays an arrogance unchanged since the atrocities of WW2.

LOL what? PS3 games aren't region locked, if Sony were really that arrogant they would lock out Europe from importing games but they didn't. I have huge respect for Sony in this matter. What MS is doing with region locking in this day and age is despicable. Yes I know technically it's not MS that is region locking but the publishers, doesn't matter thou, as MS has the final say and they allow region locking.

Japanese publishers have always been anal about their releases. I doubt MS has anythiong to say about it. Sure they can force them, but I doubt the japs would care.

Yes because MS allows it, if they would ban region locking on 360 (just like Sony did with PS3) there would be no region locking and publishers couldn't do shit.

Publishers like region locking, of course MS allows it. Why would MS ban something their customers like?

Of course publishers like it, as it means they can charge consumers in one region a higher price then consumers in less wealthier regions. The end user (that being gamers) pay the price of inflated prices and time delays when games are ported over from different regions.

Microsoft is a business.. what do businesses do?..correct: they make money.
They are getting a piece of the pie too with every software purchase sold why should or would they?. It's capitalism

What isn't there to like about region locking if you sit this side of the fence..

I am sure that if Sony could have got away with it they would have region-locked EU consoles, however that would have caused an outcry above and beyond removing ps2 hardware from the UK/EU PS3 architecture.

Is it necessary to talk to every NPC? Do you get quests or useful info that way? Or should I just ignore the generic NPC's?

yep I'm done with it took me 40-50h. Game never seems to end Very Happy
I did a lot of the sidequests, though.
If you play without a guide I would say that you are 50% through.
The game is pretty good, but after 30h and still no end in sight it got a bit tendious.
I also hate that you can miss so much stuff. Sad

Yeah the game can be a bit strange, I've had quite a few achievements called 'side quest' but I actually thought I was on the main quest. Confused

Basically I've just met Pharaoh on his mountain.

Basically I've just met Pharaoh on his mountain.

Then you still have a fairly long time to play Very Happy
After I got the airship I though "ok now the endgame begins" because it's like that in most other JRPGs. BUT it isn't. It's like ok now the real game begins
There is simply so much to do: cooking, crafting, titles, costumes, sidequests.
The costumes you can get are pretty cool but most of them you get pretty late or not at all since you missed sth. :/
Something I really don't get is why they won't let you skip a cutscene, especially when there are cutscenes direct before a boss fight -.-
Did you try to do all the secret missions (during the boss fights)?

When I did the 'secret missions' I never even knew they were secret, I just thought they were part of the main quest. Very Happy

Is there any significance to the cooking, crafting, titles, costumes part of the game/menu. I haven't spent anytime with them and I can't see what I would get out of it ?? Confused

The costumes are just costumes nothing special. The look of your chars change on world map/cutscenes and battles.
The titles are completly useless. Some special titles give you costumes and that's it.
Cooking can heal you after battle or give you stat boost but it isn't really necessary. There is also a sidequest for which you need to master all of the recipes but I didn't do it because it's too much work for the reward you get, imho.
IIRC the first time crafting gives you an achievement and generally it is cheapter to craft new stuff than to buy it. There is also stuff which can only be obtained through crafting. Often you will have most of the ingrediants for a new weapon after coming back from a dungeon. So it's worth investing your time into it.

only some of the titles are costumes like 5 out of 20 or sth. like that.
And most of them you get near the end through sidequests
