The Markus part is the worst thing in this game IMO. There's so much thought and effort put into Kara and Connor, everything Markus related seems completely idiotic to me.

I haven't played the game (no PS4 Laughing ) but have read in many places how many people haven't liked the Markus segments at all. In fact, a friend of mine has said almost the same thing you did. Laughing

1 and 2 are still amazing.

Oh man, I really love this game.

I've gone through 3 full playthroughs with my sister and we're both amazed at how much shit can change, and there's still more we haven't seen and are trying to figure out how to access.

So many little things that have effects much later that you don't even think of at first...

Easily the best quantic dream game for me so far, and one of my favourite games of the generation now.

it's not for everyone, sure, but goddamn it's definitely for me.

btw, the actor who plays connor has a twitch channel and is streaming his first playthrough together with his fiance, who also plays another npc android in detroit.
It's great fun and they're really cool nice people. He gives nice behind the scenes commentary on the scenes he acted in and he's also a gamer so he can appreciate the craftsmanship of the game.

OK, so I've now been playing this for a couple of days and absolutely LOVE it. What a game. The moral choices, the anguish over decisions that don't always have a good outcome whichever one you choose, the way you get to feel and empathise for the characters. And the amount of branching options gives at least a decent amount of replayability.

Seems that users like this one a lot more than the reviewers, who were all desperate to point out the shallow story, the allegory of black slavery etc etc. You know what? It's a fucking videogame and that's how I and most players take it. We don't act like reviewers with their oh so politically correct musings and 'right on' viewpoints in our heads whenever we play!

Oh, and the graphics...just, wow. The menu girl alone is pretty incredible. On a PS4 Pro and 4K HDR TV I've not seen better.

Reviewers are correct about the story though. It's pretty cliche, witout any subtlety, no matter how well it's presented.

Yes they are correct, but reviewers tend to slag off action or sci-fi movies for the same reasons....sure, I can see the clichés and the sometimes clumsy storytelling but it doesn't diminish my enjoyment one bit.

Maybe I'm just dumb Very Happy

May be cliché but somehow that didn't detract from the experience for me at all.
Give me this over *subverting expectations* last jedi style any day.

Like when I think about the Connor & Hank matchup... it's cliché as fuck, but it's so much fun to play! I love the dynamic between them and their dialogue.
Is that really so bad?

Yes I love hank/connor and also kara/alice. Strangely, the marcus chapters, although in a way they are the main storyline drivers of the game, just don't do it for me as much I think as they don't have the humour or emotional impact of the other two.

getting very near the end now I think (so many other games claiming my time alongside it!) and still loving it! not sure how much replayability it will have - don't think i'll go through the entire game again but will for sure dabble with the chapters and play a different way in some of them. And even if not much replay time I've definitely had my money's worth out of it.

And those graphics!!! OK, so I haven't got God Of War yet, but so far Detroit is the best I've seen.

I finally completed the game. Really enjoyed my playthrough. Although despite thinking at the beginning that I would make several more playthroughs with different decisions to see what happened, I just didn't have the urge or motivation to do so. Once was enough! Very enjoyable though. And as it's fairly new game, I got a good trade-in on it and now have God Of War to go with my backlog of stuff!

No secondary value then though! It hasn't always been 30-40, I got it new physical in a short-lived sale for £22, and once I'd played through I traded it for £18.

Digital easier yes, but I still curse at a couple of games that I bought that way and was sure I'd like, but didn't. And now they're stuck there in my download list laughing at me with no way of recouping anything back off them!

I agree trading is a huge benefit of physical media. I did that for a while too, but eventually got bored of having it listed on websites and the packing & shipping part.

Now I just directly get a digital one off sale. Easier to access the library at will. For my Xbox one X, it's even better with Game Pass. Day 1 exclusives. Very Happy

I trade them at CEX, a game exchange/sale chain we have here in the UK so no selling online or shipping. The two digital ones I made a big mistake on and are still there in my download list, never to be touched again are:

The Last Guardian - just didn't like anything at all about the game. Even the creature became annoying quickly. And awful graphics.

Elite Dangerous - couldn't get into it, despite playing original Elite to death on my C64 thirtysomething years ago up to 'Dangerous' rating. Didn't enjoy this reboot AT ALL.

Had I bought them, they would have been at CEX within days! Physical cheaper to buy generally and easier to resell, but it annoys me in its own way because of the disc swapping. I know, first world problem...but its just a hassle. So neither method is ideal. Smile

Yep it is.

Had to YouTube just to see some other pathways, I still can t motivate myself to play it over and over again because other choices would feel forced, and I don’t see myself failing every qte just to see different paths.

That’s the only thing I’d criticise about it is that replay ability is there, but it feels forced.

It's very good. Looks very natural with the gorgeous lighting in detroit and you get quite a bit more detail in the highlights.

The HDR is great. I too traded mine in after completing the story. Really enjoyed it, but couldn't motivate myself to complete it in different way to see alternate outcomes. I'd had enough. And that's not a negative, I just didn't have the interest to replay it.

I was honestly blown away by the shit I saw after my first playthrough and would highly recommend at least a second playthrough to everyone.

First one I had peaceful markus and deviant connor, with kara successfully escaping and it was nice, but later I tried aggressive markus with terminator connor, and also had kara captured and it was incredible.

Also, some of the best scenes in the game can be easily missed by going for a *perfect* playthrough and not failing stuff, which I've seen happen to way too many people online.

Finally got this game and finished it. It was VERY good. I reached all "good" endings... at least I think so. This is kinda overwhelming and I am not sure if I really like this type of story telling. I kinda like when there is of few major paths but here, it's like 10 different stories in one game and that can be either great or not. Seeing whole trees locked but making after credits roll means there is a lot of replayability here but how to get to those locked flowcharts is often unclear.
Many of dialogue options "angry, threat, stay silent" are not very indicative of what the character will say or do and often result in "wtf just happened" but to make other choice means going back to main menu and restarting the chapter which I never did because it felt like "cheating".

My story was pretty good but if I was a bit slower with some quick time events or choices, it could get pretty shitty (I replayed some checkpoints and oh lol, characters can just die unceremoniously but I guess that is the point).
I think there is a merit to linear, tight story. It could've just been 10 hours adventure game with some choices instead of many stories in one but they still kinda pulled it off.

All in all - It looks amazing aside from some slow loading textures and I will for sure replay it at least one more time making all "wrong" decisions and then again taking different paths.
See... in Mass Effect 2, I could be a super fun asshole, renegade Shepard, punch everyone in the face and still get through the game just fine. Here it's way more complicated.

btw - I was expecting Kara's story to be my fav but Hank and Connor stole the show. Loved their arc. Markus story was ok I guess... revolution and so on. Standard cliche stuff.

Now I need to replay Fahrenheit. It was always (I am ashamed) my fav quantic dreams game. Heavy rain was it for a moment but it does not hold up too well. Beyond is just not too good.
