If you do push from bottom to top you get more heat from GPU than from doing push from right to left.

It may be the time again so...
Worth an upgrade?
Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1
Ryzen 7 1800x (8 x 3,6GHz)
MSI B350 Gaming Plus
2 x 8GB Ballistix DDR4 2666 RAM
Corsair CS650 (80Gold)
Scythe Katana 4
~1270€
Current system:
EVGA GTX 970 SSC
Xeon 1231v3 (4 x 3,4GHz)
Asrock B85M
2 x 8GB DDR3 1666
Something something 450W
Arctic Freezer
--
Are the components worth the price? I'd keep my current ATX case and my harddisks (2 x SSD, 2 x HDD)
And I'll probably sell the rest part by part... I guess 300€ should be possible?

dont think so, why waste money? the performance boost wouldnt be that great at all
get a new gfx cards (1080, 1070 isnt cheap enough anymore compared to the 1080) and wait till end of the year / early next year for more upgrades

Higher Single Core performance, much much higher multi core performance, much faster ram and a gfx card that is like twice as fast won't be much of an performance boost? Obviously I'd also switch to a higher resolution display. I'm quite aware that what I have is perfect for 1080p

@PumpAction
If you have the time, then i would wait for Ryzen 2 in Q2:
https://wccftech.com/amd-2018-cpu-update-ryzen-threadripper-raven-ridge-apu-x470-am4/
And for RAM get at least 3200 MHz one. Ryzen profits very good from faster ones.
If you can't wait that long, then at least wait a few weeks till the Ryzen 1 price reductions arrive in Germoney too.

Oh, didn't they already? The 1800x costs like 345€ from alternate.de
And good tip regarding the ram, I remember reading that!
I'll wait a little. Maybe there'll also be anything new to spend 500€ on and receive even better gpu performance as the 1080 has been on the market for QUITE some time already
But as far as I can see the B350 board doesn't seem to limit the ryzen 7s in any way, right? I'm not a hardcore overclocker anyway, just some higher base clock would be nice when playing some emulators I guess?

@PumpAction
The B350 boards don't limit overclocking directly, as you can still do that via the BIOS / Software.
BUT, at least the first mainboards back then were limited hardware wise. I don't know exactly anymore what was it, but they had for example less power lanes (?) to the CPU, which in return made higher overclocks unstable or not possible at all.

@pumpy: just talked about the cpu performance, thats why i said only upgrade the gpu.
if you do much stuff which is cpu heavy (not talking about gaming!) then yes maybe its time to switch. if not its not worth to spend so much money on board,cpu and ram (ram is still fucking expensive atm). as i you know i still have the old 1230v3 and its fast enough for everything

So... I just bought the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX, a new Case and a Sapphire Pulse 5700 XT. Fuck you black friday! I had already upgraded my Power Supply to a 650W Seasonic and my drives to SSD only. I guess I need a new processor and some RAM eh? Ö

Get a 3600 if you really don't want to spend too much money and mostly game. But otherwise the 3700X is the best choice overall.
As for Ram, it all depends on money. Any 16GB Kit will do. That said, there are measurable differences:
https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3508-ryzen-3000-memory-benchmark-best-ram-fclk-uclock-mclock
So check prices on geizhals. AFAIS, the 3200/CL16 kits seem priced well. So if you dont want to spend too much, just go with that and you'll be fine.

@Pax: bequiet! Pure Base 500 with Window Kit
@couleur & Janz:
I'm pretty much set on the 3700x and 16GB. I just have to chose the right RAM that is working well with the processor and has... .... ... RGB.
Don't judge.
Pls.

OK, grabbed the 3800x for a good price (345€ incl. shipping). I guess it's worth the additional price compared to the 3700x? Will use it with 3200 2x8GB Corsair mem and a b450 Tomahawk, enough I guess?
