We got two athletes there (giant slalom and nordic skiing), though the only place with snow here is at nearly 5,000 mts and it's not skiable at all Laughing Of course none of them with a real chance to win a medal Very Happy

beautiful ceremony. It always pains me to see the spirit of the olympic games being overshadowed with so much corruption (not just in russia in this case, but inside the IOC) and the whole bs that surrounds the games usually (like what happened in sochi before the games and generally what happens in russia currently).

bring back the spirit of olympia, please Sad

how far would we need to go back though?

before or after the hitler olympics?

sports are just another money making machine for those in power. If they are held anywhere these days, they have still failed their purpose, which is to put war into a sporting arena.

Pretty pathetic considering some of those tweets/retweets are from journalist. Several of those were on the front page of yahoo. Why even do that. Sochi has enough real problems, so no need for fake photos. Also it seems yahoo is on the warpath again Sochi, every article on their front page is about problems. Every news outlet I've seen on tv (cnn, msnbc, abc and so on) just focuses on shit parts. Is the coverage same in your countries?

No, here they just give a fuck about the actual sports going on. Especially since the speed skating went somewhat well Wink

Some of the Twitter shit got mentioned, but for the most parts it's just sport reports.

That probably will be our first and last medal. Such a shame Polish sports has been systematically going downhill for last 20 years. Sad Crying or Very sad

Decent amount of Italians in biathlon and cross country skiing. They seem to be far from medals tho :/

What we talk most about is Ole Einar Bjørndalen that won Biathlon sprint... at the age of 40 Surprised

We got some really fantastic women in Cross-Country. The Norwegian team is just in a totally different leauge than the others. Sweden and Poland got strong women too, but not that good teams.

As for the men in cross country:

Simply insane! He haven't been in perfect shape this season tho :/

And in ski jumping there is only one nation we really fear... and thats Austria. Germany and Slovenia seems to be pretty good this year too, but we'll see Wink

Poland already won gold Ski Jumping on normal hill. I doubt we are gonna get far on group one. We only have 1-2 good people and rest are medicore. And there is still the long hill Razz

Our Kowalczyk broke her bone in her feet and that's only reason Bjørndalen won. Razz Razz

Cross-country isn't very popular in the Alps, alpine skiing on the other hand is loved and followed. We surprisingly got a silver medal today (men's downhill) Razz

^Think you're mixing people, her name is Marit Bjørgen. But yeah, thanks for clearing that up, I was like WTF when Kowalczyk ended up so far behind. The commentators thought she gave up because she lost some sec on skii change after classic part). She is usually fighting for medal.
